I've been thinking about it for a while, but am now seriously considering setting up my large 32" display in my front window promoting our services.

The reason for my wanting to do this now is that there is a dentist moving in next door, which I assume will be high traffic, so I want to take advantage of the opportunity to promote what we do to their clients.

The challenge is, I'm not even sure how to start. What app should we use? Can I just use my old mac mini that is just sitting around? Should we add other items, such as weather and local headline news?

Perhaps I should reach out to a local company who does waiting room TV advertising and allow them to put a monitor in my window in exchange for free advertising.

Sorry if I'm a little incoherent...at home with my kids talking to me while I try to collect my thoughts.

For a simple setup like you have Luke you should be able to get by with a PPT presentation unless you want to have a live feed, like RSS, with weather, news, etc. So guess you need to decide about content first.

I do work for a number of companies with kiosk type applications and they are all computer and monitor based with a software package. I've also read about some using a PI box or similar for these applications.

For a while I had a Roku connected to a TV and used the photo viewer connected to a Google Photo Album in slideshow mode from PowerPoint slides I saved as jpg. Dual purpose - play signage during the day Roku use for those late nights.

For simple and easy I've used a web browser in full-screen mode on the few kiosks I've made. Creating and selecting content is easy then as everything can be in HTML. User administration is easy (load content into browser and hit F11.) Usually it's been a video or slide show from a local directory looping all day.
