Hi all,

I have just had a customer drop a PC off to me that "keeps restarting". Disabled auto-restarting and am getting a BSOD with the following:

STOP: 0X0000008E (0XC0000005, 0XBF803EB6, 0XF9FEB7C4, 0X0000000000)

win32k.sys - Address BF803EB6 base at BF800000, Datestamp 47e0e106

Ive never come accross this one before, does anyone have any ideas how to sort it?

Machine is running XP and wont boot at all...

Thanks

Aaron

Did you google "STOP: 0X0000008E win32k.sys".

Lots of info out there.... ;)

Google: Learn it, know it, live it ! :D

Have googled it and can't find a reason or fix.

Are you saying that you cannot find ANY reasons or that all the reasons listed in all of the search results do not match up or appear similiar to what you are experiencing ?

Did you try stress testing the ram with something like memtest86+ ? I would do that next just to see if its a ram gone bad.

The only reason I have found is bad RAM, but i have already put another working stick in.

Well there are more than just memory errors, keep looking. I would next check on the video card, see if the bios settings are changed. See if the drivers have been updated recently. If you can, pull the video and stick a generic SVGA card in and see if it comes up.

There is alot more, but you get the idea. Good luck.

Has on board video, customer says they haven't changed/updated anything, but they could of without knowing.

I have done a repair install and still no good.

Have tried the HD in an other computer and it does the same.

I can't do a fresh install as there is no XP COA, the customer wouldn't want to buy a new license.

Hi I just registered because my wife's laptop just had this problem a few minutes ago.

However, her's did show the Anti-XP 2008 window telling that her pc was infected and to download the software. We've read about this virus before and how it was transmitted through email so she wasn't sure why it showed up during regular internet browsing.

So she just turned off her machine not knowing what to do...rebooted and now she got the BSOD as well.

So I'm guessing it's the same damn XP 2008 virus that's no longer in just our email but somehow it's just appearing randomly.

Read up on :... NOTE: Nevermind, I just tried to include a Microsoft URL regarding the virus but guess I needed to post 15 times before getting the privilege

It talks about the Anti XP 08 virus and some things people have done to remedy their problem.

However the problem with my wife's laptop is that she can't even boot to the OS now. Quite a nasty virus.

Hopefully this will provide the techies w/ a lead.

I have a customer's laptop right now that has the same symptoms. I pulled the drive out and am scanning it on my test machine. 8 hits on the scanner so far.

I just ran windbg and the BSOD on the laptop I'm working on is because of a malware called "MSNBOOTDB.EXE" I don't know how many people here know, but you can run the minidump when your computer crashes through windbg and it will tell you exactly what caused your BSOD.
