I've had two machines today stuck on Win10 Updates. I left one running at a client (to return tomorrow) and I have one on the bench that's been running for hours (i3 with an SSD) and nothing but "Getting Windows ready". I probably don't have enough patience, but I'd hate to have to sit this one out at a clients place.

I had a similar problem a few days ago.
I restarted 3-4 times in rapid succession and it seemed to get it moving.
Sounds silly I know but worked for me.

I download the current one each month and have it on my USB. If they are behind I do them manually. Just like the AU.
I only get 15 - 16 Mbps at the shop. I get 50 at home.

Im finding update 1511 to be the one getting stuck. Had a few clients today report this issue.
When you goto more details on update it shows Waiting to Download. Almost like a torrent waiting for more seeders.

Update 1511? You are still seeing original builds of Windows 10? If they are that far behind I would just load 1607 from the USB.

I had similar problem with Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1607 for x64-based Systems (KB3189866) . Stuck at 45 - 49% downloading. Had to download it from the Microsoft Catalog

The one on the bench finally finished its update and booted up fine as I'm sure the one at the client will have done. (Yes, it's 1511 build on the bench.) I'm surprised it shows nothing when reviewing installed updates. All I can see are the updates installed on 9/13 which were different than this huge roll-up on 9/14. Hmmm......

It is not a roll-up. It is a build. A new version of Windows was installed. It will do it again soon to get the 1607 build. As a matter of course when you see a system that is not at the current build the best course of action is to simply install it from a USB stick. That is the quickest jump and least time on your bench.

Just curious those of you using Max Focus with Windows 10 Clients- Does anyone have a way to stop Microsoft pushing out Windows 10 updates and leaving it to Max Focus to do. Even though i have Patch Management on for Max - these windows 10 updates seem to be bypassing this and Microsoft is pushing them out automatically.

No way to do that. Windows 10 Pro can be set to defer updates. That will give you some control but if you skip an update it will get pushed onto the system in 4 months. Also, most of the patches are cumulative so if you skip March and Install April you get what was offered in March anyway. There is a script in the FixIt scripts to turn on deferred updating via a registry change but again that only works on Pro. Home by design takes ALL updates as they come out. Welcome to Windows as a Service. Free Vaseline at the door.

Then you will not be able to install any updates. WUservice is needed even with 3rd party patching.

Its defer Upgrades. You cant stop the monthly cumulative updates without messing with gpedit or turning off the update service.
Mine was stuck at 67% I rebooted and it stuck at 23%. Then I tried this and it worked right away.

I play around with a Mint machine just to maintain a wee bit of experience in the Linux world. Patching that machine has proven to be nearly painless. And if you don't want 17.3 you don't have to take it.
Microsoft seems to be determined to make the process as pain-FULL as possible.
What M$ needs to provide is a combination of routine update rollups on a 3 or 4 month schedule along with critical updates on a delta basis. And there should be a switch someplace where an admin user can "lock" in a prime version for eternity with the understanding that delta patches will end after a year or so.

After hundreds and hundreds of updates, never once had an "update" that has caused any issue, I haven't had to manually reboot my Linux system for over two years!
It has, however, been restarted due to power cuts. Its a laptop, so on battery but only lasts an hour or so. My UPS only lasts 30 min. We've had the power off for over 7 hrs here after storms!
