Wifi Internet filtering in church sanctuary

I am not sure about that one, one of the largest faiths in America, the LDS church (14.4 members) has Wifi in most branch and ward buildings. The wifi is secured by wpa/wpa2, the password is handed out on a need to know basis and the firewall is remotely managed by Salt Lake City.

The LDS church has been called sheltering and for them to put it in means that they have done alot of thought over it.

Not to nitpick, since it really has nothing to do with the thread, but I wouldn't call it one of the largest. It is 1.7% as of November of last year. Numbers wise that puts it just below the total number of agnostics and just over the total number of atheists. Kind of an awkward place it would seem.

So far from what I've tested just today... using OpenDNS from the router has been pretty quick and easy and seems to function well.

I'm seeing more & more churches get techie so might as well get in on it

I do this all the time, they only thing they ask at my church is to silence them. I can't read the tiny text in the dim light, so having a tablet really helps. Plus all my notes sync to my cell phone, it's really pretty neat.

I only read the first page of this thread, but what I have seen setup in a similar situation is to use a switch with built-in content filtering (I believe there's a barracuda router with content filtering) and then run a wifi switch off of there.

My father was the administrative pastor at our church here locally and that's what we setup in their office for their content filtering so that it carried down to each individual machine. I believe we also used trend micro AV on each system to block content as well.

The OP stated that this was for the people in the sanctuary, not for the church's PCs. Also, it can't involve client-side filtering as almost any device (tablet, smart phone, etc) will be allowed to connect.
