Who hires women to work with them

The country i live in women press charges against men all the time for harassment, in some cases they just do it to get something or to ruin the guys life. I dont want to go on hiring women because i just dont want the risk even though all my friends say to hire them cause they are hot and will bring in business lol.

Are you for real? This, as well as your insult on the Vistaprint thread, are giving off a rather trollish aroma...

Of course I do, but I had to stop myself....

I believe in keeping men and women in their specific gender roles at my company. Women do all the hard work, men do all the easy work.

:p

Now, I know this is a lie. You'd never hire a man, what with them always pressing false harassment charges against innocent, hard-working business women like yourself. :D

Of course I would, but luckily my techs aren't attracted to extremely powerful rich women that are also super duper sexy.

:p

I found your post helpful btw! hehe..Merry Christmas everyone!

Man here in Aust you can get your butt sued for even mentioning you employ based on gender, Plus is it really that bad over there? I get the impression that the OP is a troll but i would like to know if there is some thruth in what he says ( assuming he is in US)

For what its worth i only have guys at the moment but i have no issue in hiring a female tech if she can do the job. The last time i hired i didnt have any females apply but i have have a few resumes come in latley.

I think the premise is kind of ridiculous. From my experience working in several places around the US of A I have found that if you aren't a lecher AND the employer doesn't higher people based on JUST their looks you are fine.

I was taught my computer skills by one of the most highly competent techs that I have ever met in my life, and it was a woman.

Her and I still have a very professional correspondence even though she still lives in Georgia and I live in Idaho on the other side of the country. We still ask each other for tech advice when running across unfamiliar problems and help each other whenever we can. There was never a remote hint of a threat of sexual harassment charges.

So basically, if you higher according to expertise and skill, you don't have to worry. But throw cameras up by all means if that makes you feel better.

Seriously? You guys are encouraging this guy to hire women?

Why would you do that to them? (the employees).

OP: in answer to your question, NO you shouldnt hire women to work with you. You would always be looking behind your back because you dont trust them. Plus they are gossipy, irrational, physically weaker than men (no heavy lifting). They also tend to be shorter (can't reach things) and, as we all know, they can't drive.

If you were hiring a cleaner, a nanny, or a cook, then all good. But not a tech.

Just not a good prospect for you. Stick to men. Please.

There a lot of famous woman in the IT field.
1) Grace Hopper first programmer of the Harvard Mark I known as 'Mother of Cobol"
2) The original programmers of the ENIAC (used in the War) are mostly female.
3) Last but not the least, my mentor Laura Chappell. I've seen her in action where most guys failed.

Sexual harassment can happen anywhere. Instead of avoiding it, it's better be to aware and learn not to become a victim.

If your going to avoid hiring female you might as well avoid female contact all the time. Don't accept female clients. To play it much safe, change your career and join the priesthood. At least you only need to worry with altar boys. :D

the only problem I ever had working with or for women in an IT position was very specific.

In the datacenter of my last 40hr/wk job, the requirement was that the applicant had to be able to lift 50lbs chest high.
Although there were some men that had this problem the biggest problem were the women I was teamed with. These little old 50 year old women were short but strong.
Chest high for them was about a yard off the ground. For me it was 5'.

The problem came when we couldn't get the server lift between the racks. I was lifting by myself for the last mile. With a short guy it wouldn't matter much because, generally, male & female muscles work differently past the chest making it difficult sometimes to hold things over their head. (at least that's how it was explained to me).
If we had a server that was larger than 2U I generally passed installation onto the next shift citing "staffing issues". A new manager called me on it one time so we had to do a physical demonstration. fun.

This problem started to go away as our server density started to go down and we stopped racking them past keyboard height.

But yeah women in IT aren't any worse than men. I learned the business from a woman.
the interpersonal stuff though can get sketchy if either party involved is immature or has an agenda. but this problem isn't limited to IT.

i cant believe this thread still alive..

simple facts are

women can be shite at IT

oh and guess what

men can be shite at IT.

and how about the real clincher from those who have hired employees.. no matter if male or female every employee whilst doing their job couldnt give a feck what sex they are (unless they think it will get them out of something they did wrong or not want to do).

although every one is savie enough to know; if you try to hit on them you will either end up in court or bed or even both.

I am just too scared. I dont want to be labeled as a harasser even if your found innocent its still there for the world to know.

If i do find a highly qualified girl that is extremely techy well i wont turn them down. Probably will have cameras throughout the store though to keep me protected from THEM as well as theft.

Thoughts on this at all??

I think you're horribly paranoid, and if you'll be treating the ladies that discriminatory, you should probably avoid hiring them. Discrimination tends to be illegal around here. If you're horribly afraid of women, don't hire them. If you're hiring them to be hot and attract business, you ARE a harasser.

Have you see the ads for Godaddy.com. Would you consider the owner or who ever made the ad a harasser.

I have been noticing most of my clients receptionist are goddess. Reminds me of the TV show WKRP in Cincinnati.

Actually, I specifically omit godaddy when a client is looking for a registrar.
I only have one client that uses them that I know of because it was easier to change domain ownership.
I don't know what they are trying to sell with their commercials. but I don't think of domain registration and hosting when I see them.
And they've proven their true colors recently with their involvement in SOPA. they got themselves a nice little exclusion for themselves written into it while potentially hanging all their customers out to dry.
They've lost about 30k domains this past week because of it. http://www.techspot.com/news/46791-godaddy-loses-over-37000-domains-due-to-sopa-stance.html
