Which cloud/online backup service for x2 servers with MS Exchange and SQL?

We've got two servers - an SBS 2008 domain controller, running Exchange 2007 and Windows Server 2008 member server, which holds all of our shared data, multiple SQL databases etc.

The domain controller has 300GB of data and the member server has about 1TB of data.

We back the servers up every night to external hard drives using Windows Server backup and this works really well.

As a secondary backup I was considering the option of using a cloud/online backup service.

Does anyone have any recommendations? We've come across Microsoft Azure and Mozy both of which we're going to look at.

We would obviously need a system that can back up Microsoft Exchange and SQL databases - all of which are fairly large.

Thanks

We use/resell Datto.
What kind of disaster recovery/business continuity needs does this client have?
Replibit is another service similar to Datto, much less expensive, but still a good product.

There are a lot of great solutions for your needs: StorageCraft ShadowProtect, Ontrack PowerControls, Nakivo. I would recommend the last one, because what you need is to make sure your app data is consistent. And if you run it in app-aware mode, you’ll definitely get consistent backups. Plus you get granular recovery of app objects and files. So an all-round good solution.

One thing we DO NOT allow,
No Advertising
You cannot post advertisements of any sort in any forum. This includes products, services or websites that you would directly or indirectly benefit from in any way. Exceptions to this rule (may be objected to which is at the discretion of the moderators):

  • Signatures - If you are posting good, useful posts then you may include your own website in the signature of your message. Obvious exceptions to this are porn sites, hate sites etc..
  • Unaffiliated Announcements - If you spot a great deal on a site, post it in the "Computer Deals" forum. You may only do this if you are completely unaffiliated with that deal.
Any tricks to circumvent this (such as getting a friend to advertise for you in order to bypass the "unaffiliated" rule) will be dealt with at the discretion of the moderators.

As you have edited your signature to show you are affiliated with Nakivo, after your intro post, you have broken one of our rules, by attempting to circumnavigate them. Had you shown your interest in such products in your intro post, I would not have allowed you access to the forum.

For this reason, you are no longer welcome on the forum, and your account has now been banned.

While I have reservations about using Windows Server Backup in general, since thats the system you guys have, why not use something like crashplan and use it to replicate your windows server backup files to the cloud? The only downside is that it wouldnt be capable of doing database restores directly from the cloud, you would have to download the entire windows backup chain for the restore, but if its just for disaster recovery then shouldn't be an issue. Plus you can save some money by just using a simple file based cloud backup instead of a more expensive application aware backup.

I would suggest Veeam with a copy job to Azure or AWS but it sounds like these are physical servers not virtualised? Veeam does it's best work with Hyper-V & VMware

Our second option for cloud backups is RedStor - https://www.redstor.com/en-us/

PS.
I can't help but state the obvious - get those servers upgraded !!

I'm with Stonecat, all on premise servers get Datto.

The ability to spin that server up as a VM when the real one died is ESSENTIAL now.
