Where to find Asus DC jack

I find Asus parts are often hard to find and new computer parts are often hard to find. Finding a part for a newish Asus laptop? Forget it. I've got a customer with an Asus F555LA computer that won't charge and we want to try changing the jack before we declare it a motherboard issue. This jack does not appear to be available anywhere. My guess is it's probably the same as one of their jacks used in another computer, there's not a lot of variation in these things, but neither can I find a cross reference. I found one site that claims they had it (in China), ordered it, and the next day they sent me an email asking for pictures of my jack - FFS. If anyone knows a good source for this, I would appreciate a clue.

Easiest thing to do in this case is to remove the old jack and match it to another on ebay, you will then know what is/isn't compatible

The problem with that is that different Asus jacks look VERY similar, I would rather know that I'm ordering the right part than hope.

Is it a soldered or cabled Jack?
If it's soldered, just check the positive pin coming out the back center of the jack. The connection there often breaks. It's actually easier to just repair the jack by soldering that connection than replacing the jack.

Thanks for the 2 suggestions above. We're going to take it apart again today and we'll have a look. In the meantime let me tell you about something funny that happened overnight.

This is a Windows 8 machine for which we have the wrong password, I'm waiting to get it from the customer. From the login screen, I could see yesterday that leaving it on, even when plugged-in, was draining the battery. It did not show that it was on AC power and the front battery light was not lit. Diagnosis: No AC/Mains power.

I left the machine overnight plugged into my adapter and in an inverted position (FWIW). When I sat down to look at it this morning, I noticed the the front-side battery light was lit. I flipped it over, turned it on and sure enough, the login screen showed a full battery and AC power connected. When I pulled my adapter out of the socket jack, the associated lights went off. I immediately plugged it back in...nothing. Both on-screen and front-side indicator are dark, no AC. I can move the adapter tip a couple of millimetres around but the computer doesn't respond to this. Diagnosis: Bad MOSFET or capacitor that eventually changes state if you leave the power on it long enough.

Slim possibility the battery is going bad.
More likely it's the charge setting. If it is set to power cycle the battery, it won't charge the battery until it has discharged to a certain point. Usually 50-75%.

Since we do a lot of Asus power jack replacements, we always order 3 to 5 extra power jacks, especially since most power jacks are used on a several different models. Now we have most Asus power jacks in stock and we rarely have to do a special order. All we have to do is compare the jacks (which are also labeled) and if they matched up, we are good to go. If we don't have it, then we will of course look online and then order extra just as we have done before. Just a suggestion that might save you some hassle later on down the road.
