Edit: my area is stuck on 100 Mbps and will someday be upgraded to 200 Mbps.

Charter advertises that their speeds start at 200mbps. I always get 100mbps. The upgrade from 100 to 200 was a while ago.

Everyone in my area with the standard speed is stuck at 100mbps - 200mbps is simply not an option for anyone.

We have 100, 400 & gig.

I live in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.

Charter chat conversation from right now:

Tech:
Are you directly connected to the modem or do you have a third party router?

Me: It never mattered. Always get 100mbps. Direct or 3rd party WiFi. When direct, I used fancy CAT6 shielded Ethernet cable.

(Note: I have one of their new, fancy DOCSIS 3.1 modems - model: E31U2V1)

Tech: Ok, I can get you scheduled with a technician to come check this out for you.

Me: I don't think a tech can do anything about it. The whole city of [x] is stuck at 100mbps

Tech: Also, if everyone in your neighborhood has this same issue, they could all schedule for a technician to come out. Then the issue can be investigated.

Me: Not my neighborhood. My entire city of 13,000 people. It simply is not available here. I would like to know why some areas of the country are still stuck on 100.

Tech: Ok, we can start by having a technician come out and they will look into why your area only gets 100 mbps.

A tech is coming over tomorrow to investigate. I am sure they will be shaking their head at customer service.

Many people didn't take Charter up on the offer of the new modems that support the 200Mbps and in turn were stuck at the old 100 Mbps level just by inaction.

Holy ****, Charter chat is retarded!!!

Chart tech was here.

Just as I predicted, he shook his head over Charter chat having him come over for something they could have answered over chat. He says they have him do silly stuff sometimes.

His info says I am paying for 100 Mbps. He called Charter to double verify and they say 100, too.

Went back to Charter chat to inquire. They kept telling me I am paying for Charter Internet Plus 200 Mbps. They don't acknowledge or care that the Charter tech found otherwise.

I decided to call Charter. I spoke with a very helpful lady that actually knows her ****!!!! Says my area (as I figured) does not currently offer 200 Mbps. The area will eventually (no ETA) be upgraded from 100 to 200. Equipment upgrades have to occur first.

Damn, Charter chat sucks balls!!! How can chat suck so bad, but telephone support be just fine?

Charter tech tested my modem and found lots of bad stuff (not due to modem itself). Missing out on signals/frequencies. He got up on the pole and did testing. Says there's problems all over the place and him and other techs are gonna be extra busy today.

Charter tech says there's 200 Mbps - there's 15/30/100/200/400/1000. Pretty sure he is wrong. Misinformed chat, misinformed tech. The lady on the phone knows the truth lol.

I doubt 15 is an option. It was probably 15 and now 30 for low income people in select areas.

They should just put me on 400 at no extra cost until we get 200 LOL.

I recently helped a family member with moving his Comcast service and their phone support was unhelpful until about the 3rd or 4th person who seemed to grasp the concerns and questions.

People want to complain about Charter, but at least they do not have data caps :)

Comcast should at least up the cap to 2TB, IMO.

The worst thing is the limited upload speeds. Charter gigabit Internet has 35 Mbps upload. Pitiful!

Bring on Google Fiber lol. $70 for 1 gig/1 gig :) <3

I agree but for me personally I don't see much issue with the cap but I run a Plex server so we can watch stuff and not use any of that data allotment. I am not sure anyone doesn't limit upload speeds but I don't do a lot of uploading in general so for me it isn't an issue.
