i have a french client, he want me to fix his laptop because of audio problem... the problem is, the operating system is in french so i could not figure out what is the problem because of the language of the OS...if the language is in english i might solved the problem... have you encountered this situation? what did you do...? what should i say to the client...he can understand a few words of english... thanks & God bless.....

be honest with them tell them exactly what you said here and if they cant offer you english, walk away not worth the possible headaches

i had one similar experience one, whilst working for a managed services provider, the owner of the office downstairs had a friend over who was spanish, he spoke some english however the os was in spanish...

luckily it was just a wireless problem and he couldn't connect to the wireless at the office. i managed to find the network connections by recognizing icons, found that his ip's were set up manually for back home, so i took a note of them and changed them to automatic, and it worked.

my case was easier than yours, other than that you could try changing the OS language, not sure how obvious that would be to find in a foreign language however.

or... if in doubt ask the client to translate some of whats on screen, if they're english is ok that is.

If it's just an audio problem it could be a simple driver issue which you should be able to figure out despite the language. I'd at least give it a shot

I can't post links yet, but Google "Windows MUI" and check it out. It's provided by Microsoft. Not sure if that would be helpful to you but....

@nick driver is not a problem...i tried reinstalling, update it but it did not work. be back tomorrow morning for final decision of what's going to do with the laptop...

My cousin visited from Germany and had an audio problem with his laptop. My German is passable, but not my technical German, but I just downloaded and installed VLC Player and problem solved - never know, you might get lucky as well.

You could also try this web page: Yahoo Babel Fish . It's not perfect, but if you copy and paste your error messages and such, select to/from languages, the translation might be good enough to give you an idea of what's going wrong.

Are you kidding? I do speak french but I have repaired computers in Chinese! And no I'm not chinese. It's simple if you KNOW the os you can do it by heart. Anyway an audio problem should be fairly easy to resolve.. install a new driver and/or check to see if the default devices are set to the normal (it's in english usually anyway) audio device.

Just repair it by how you remember the OS..

Also maybe boot off a live cd just to make sure there are no physical audio issues.

thanks for all the ideas and suggestions...i figure it out! the driver was corrupted and the volume control on the left side of the laptop...it's not turn on......i was not able to figure it out the first time... i overlook it...thanks to all of you guys....if i was not patient enough i would have a wrong diagnosis... it would have led to a french revo...hehehehe...anyway, thanks to all of you guys....happy me & happy him...
