What should we use for a POS and Ticket Tracker for Computer Shop / Retail Store?

i was using osticket and qb but after trying out the pcrt demo i bought it and with the new version its much better looking

i am customizing it to my own specs but i think i will end up using it to take care of everything, since its php and customization i can make changes and additions whenever i need

I think everyone's looking for this elusive software. For what it's worth regarding QB POS, we just set it up for a client and the new version (2013) is pretty bad-ass. I'm going to be installing it on a test machine this next week to see if I can somehow get it to play nice with mHelpdesk.

Our top requirements for a POS system are:
Retail transaction without setting up customer
Returns/Exchanges
barcode scanning
cash drawer
gift cards

QB POS handles all this.

I'm talking in the QB community to see if I can get some help to make everything play nice with each other, and I'll share any info I get.

we just installed the new QB POS as well -- will most likely go with that, as at the moment it will do best -- we can do service tickets in it as well.

Are you using it in conjunction with anything else? How does it handle service tickets (I didn't get a chance to look into that feature).

well it doesn't give me remote access nor does it give customer access...... but it doesn't cost me upwards of $2500/yr like repairshopr or mhelpdesk, and it's a single purchase license (damn expensive though).
I can manage tickets from either side (multiple stores), easy to add info etc.... so far so good, but we just installed it all 2 nights ago.

I don't want to sound like a salesman lol, but in your other post re Merchant OS you asked if it would do customer self lookups, scheduling etc.... but the above stuff you mentioned as your 'top requirements' it does very, very well.

Haven't played with 2013 yet, but have supported earlier versions of QB POS and it blew like the eastern wind. Horrible stuff. You still have to: purchase up front, backup yourself, hope you never need support (QB support blows as we all know). I am interested to find out if QB changed all of the above in their 2013 release?

You're right on all fronts. Those are our top requirements for the POS pieces, but I was curious if it was able to do any of those specific service management parts. And while the new QB POS is a killer POS with some great tie-ins, its still an Intuit product with all the shortcomings.

I think if MerchantOS really embraced the service side of things it would be the all time ultimate POS system. But they are focused on simplicity (not a bad thing per se). They try to keep it super simple so you can get setup with no training and ring up sales and service very quickly. If we could frankenstein in a few features from other programs it would be ideal lol.

From what I've been able to research so far I agree. I've sent in a support request and will be talking to them soon. I know they have an API available so maybe mHelpdesk can somehow integrate with them, or maybe they'll tell me they have all these features on a roadmap for Q1, or maybe I just need to stop searching for the mythical unicorn and settle for a couple different systems that don't fully integrate. Whatever the answer, I appreciate all your input and especially the video.

I ran a full test on it the other day, and it just flat out won't work for us.

ComputerPro, I don't know if you use mHelpdesk now, but maybe you can share the essentials for retail to help us get the perfect product?!

Yeah, that would be awesome actually! In fact, if there is anyone who is currently using any other POS solutions for their store or shop that would be willing to give some input into this discussion, that would be awesome.
