What R your thoughts on Latest Unbunto ?

I am currenttly evluating the latest edition of Unbunto with the new Unity desktop. Looks good for the end user. What are your thoughts any glitches or features you do not like ?

Well, the spelling and general command of the Enlgish language leaves much to be desired ... but I think the latest Ubuntu is great, myself. It's not necessarily what many users of it want it to be, but it is what the majority of people want. Now, they just need to get more normal people to be users.
 
i can see what they wanted to achieve, by merging the netbook and desktop versions, but the new unity desktop does make it a bit of a mess tbh, ok its not hard to navigate and find you files and apps, but it is far more annoying and less sleek than the classic gui.
 
Try Mint.

Linux Mint for a newer faster awesomer linux...

it's just ubuntu on acid.. <grin> seriously. try it.

+1...I REALLY hate unity...I even hate Gnome 3...I couldn't find a way to add applets to the panels. I'm used to having my little "Kill Misbehaving Window" button, my resource monitor, etc. etc...

I don't like the new default interface at all. I like the simple traditional setup.
 
Unity and Gnome three sucks. Hopefully cinnamon will be better.
 
Horrible!

Unity and Gnome 3 that is. Which means not only has Ubuntu been ruined but so has LinuxMint 12. Dumbing stuff down so much that it runs on a phone / tablet means desktop and laptop users have to suffer a poor UI where everything has been change for the sake of change.

Hm, was going to post on the Windows 8 thread but I think I can almost copy and paste the above there too...

If they are smart, they will keep the UI for the tablets and phones completely separate from the desktop, which I can't imagine why they would not. In any case, Linux Mint is working on cinnamon, which looks promising.
 
Gee wizzies, I almost got kicked out of the Ubuntu forums because I expressed my feelings about Unity and gnome3. Something about my eyes and rusty forks if you know what I mean.

Whats really bad is that it kinda puts me in a spot with customers as I have installed it on alot of systems for residential users. They loved the gnome2 desktop. Now when their version (10.x) runs out of support I hope cinnamon is matured.

If I understand correctly there's something there thats about the same reasoning MS is using with Metro - its all about interoperability.

Ubuntu are gunning for the mobile device market as agressively as Google and MS - seems like thats where its at now, and Unity is their launchpad for that goal. They seem really interested in cracking the new mobile device 'desktop' market, and from where Im standing, thats a smart move, given the way tech is rapidly heading in that direction.

The other aspect thats of interest from what I have seen (Linux geeks stop me here if I am wrong) but I think I heard that the LTS release is coming out in about 8 weeks. In other words, its really here to stay - like it or not.

I still like KDE best. I dloaded a bunch of Linuxes last week and played with them in VMware. Opensuse I liked best for the very intuitive desktop interface.

I get that Gnome's more popular. I could never understand why though.

Whilst I'm not wowed by the Unity interface (the icons look so 90s) it's not the main thing about Ubuntu. What makes Ubuntu good is the Software Centre and driver support.At least now you've got a fighting chance the damned thing will actually work on your computer without trawling forums for help getting wireless to work or whatever. And downloading s/w is like it should be.

However the upshot of all this improved usability seems to be that it's really no faster than Windows 7 as far as I can tell. And I still find Win7 to be more user friendly.
 
I always used gnome because of the applets and configurability. Now thats pretty much gone so I have started using LXde.

I always argued that unity and g3 should have been offered as available desktops instead of the default desktops. To me that would have made alot more sense.

Now Im looking more into mint. Its cinnamon desktop looks promising but is still maturing.
 
Thanks to Unity I added the Xubuntu and Lubuntu packages. When I get ADHD about my desktop I switch between the 3
