Curious on what you think makes you unique and stand out from the competition?
(no real order, just let your brain spill)

Bullet point this thread.

  1. I have a fish tank in an OLD IMac that everyone sees first thing when walking through the door.
  2. I bring my dog with me to work (he is fenced so he can see the front-room, but can't touch the customers, the customers have to touch him)
  3. I conceal carry. I often put it inside the pants, but outside the shirt, so customers may end up seeing it. This has gotten a lot of people saying this such as "I am glad to see small-business are still protecting themselves" and "I am happy to see a young responsible man protecting himself properly". One of those was from a Vietnam war veteran. I only did this in this store when I had two locations, because the people living around my store were strongly republican, country, redneck stereotype. Big trucks, monster wheels, confederate flags, chewing tobacco, and a LOT of open carry handguns. #KnowYourCustomers.
  4. I always give upfront pricing ballparks, I don't ever try to hide my prices. They know what they want to spend before they ever get into their car to come to my store. So not (insert adult word here) with pricing, it creates a more trusting relationship.
  5. I will often meet them outside to carry in computers, and always ask to carry it back out to their car (assuming they can't easily do it (obvious disabilities, older age))

I really push that "southern hospitality"

I push "Minnesota nice" it shows on my webpage, and I use the word "folks"
I talk to people in my blogs, articles and videos. I treat the listener like a friend.
I try to have personal/technical relationships with clients, remember stuff from our last call or something else memorable
Easy to get an appointment online, simple instructions, basic everything.
I'm FAF, and people love that. Hurts me I think but it's how I roll

We tend to be "the big guys" around here....even though there are IT shops larger than us. When I say "the big guys"...we tend to have a few bigger clients that want "the best"..and we install bigger servers, heavier duty higher grade equipment, that sort of stuff. We don't piddle around with "Linksys Ranger" type of stuff. Bigger over powered servers, higher end network hardware, and the knowledge to back it all up.

We tend to be ahead of the competition in other areas. We were the first big resellers of Datto in the area for years, joining up the first year Datto came out. Now lots of others resell it. We were the first big resellers of Untangle in the area, now we see it here 'n there. We were the first for Ubiquiti in the area, now tons of other IT peeps use it.

I ride a Harley...including going onsites. My 4 wheel vehicle is a RAM 1500 HEMI Sport Custom. Yeah I'm not the typical timid socially challenged IT nerd.

3 of us carry here. Legally. Our wiring guy is even an instructor for carry permits.
