I've got Windows 7 on my desktop and Windows XP on my laptop.

I've tried Vista and never had problems with it, although I've never liked the look of it.

I'd have to say Win. XP is my OS of choice, in terms of speed, and Windows 7, well I'm still very much in the dark as to whether I like it or not.

What is your favourite OS, and for what reason?

Linux distro's included: Ubuntu, Fedora etc.

I use OpenSUSE on most of my workstations. My netbook is triple booted with Windows 7, OSX, and Ubuntu. My webserver is Windows 2k3 on a VM hosted by a Linux server. I have XP on Multiple VM's and my test system. My notebook is dual boot Windows XP and OpenSUSE.

OS's I like:
-XP because it's familiar and is a fantasticly 'shaped' OS
-Windows 7 because it's new, shiny, and brings new features (half decent UAC for example :))
-Ubuntu and Fedora for web/file servers, they're very stable and secure
-Puppy linux/knoppix/linux in general for data recovery
-OS X because it's shiny
-Vista because it brings in money for tuneups ;)

OS's I don't like:
-Vista because it's like windows ME
-All mac OS's before OS 10

XP for me hands down, I know it and I'm very comfortable with it.

I have Windows 7 on 2 laptops, I like using it, but I'm way to unfamilar with it to say that I like it.. I'm working on that, but I really haven't had any issues with it, no repair work with Windows 7.. I've had more than a few with Vista though.

For the most part, if I'm just surfing the internet or whatever I used Windows 7.. If I'm actually doing any kind of work, repairs or whatever I use XP.

I use Win Server 2003 R2 as well, about as much as XP.

I just downloaded Ubuntu last week, been using it off and on, I like it, I just have a ton to learn. It's the first OS I've used that isn't Windows based.

If you want to learn Linux ubuntu is a bad distro to learn in. Chances are you will never support an ubuntu install but many businesses might need you to support Linux. Ubuntu is not like any other Linux distro. There are to many differences to help you in the long run. Like disabling the root account and merging root privileges with your user.

If you want my advice I would learn on OpenSUSE or Fedora. They will be more then likely closer to what you will be supporting. And learn the console, GUI's are for pu$$ies. Chances are if you support any Linux servers you will not have a GUI available anyway.

The current Windows OS: That which I can expect to start getting calls about. If I'm on-site and have to 'learn their OS' because I haven't kept up with things, that's no else's fault. In 9 years, I've had 0 Linux customers and about 3 customers with macs (and they've only called me about software issues e.g. email/Word).

I've known XP for a long time. I don't need to run it anymore; I need to run the new stuff.

Windows 7 for running my business.

Ubuntu for programming.

I am in Ubuntu more than Windows at the moment and the reasons for using them is simple, Windows is better for some things and linux is better for others. I am programming in Ruby now and while I can do it on Windows, programming in Linux where all the tools are available and I don't have to lookup hacks to get it working properly make it so much easier. Plus, the application will be deployed to Linux servers in the end.

Windows has the software I need to run my business, QuickBooks, Office (I don't really care for OpenOffice) TeamViewer and of course just using the same OS as my clients.

I love using them both.

Windows 7 because it is the immediate future and I need to keep hands on other than that XP because it's the best of the rest for years.

Vista :)

Just kidding, I wanted to see the reactions. I go for Windows 7 and Mint. Fast, simple and stable

I must get a couple more computers to keep up with the OS's out there.
My file server/workshop machine runs Win7 Pro with XPUnlimited for RDP and WAMP for the CRM
My secondary workshop machine runs XP Pro
My Point of Sale machine runs XP Pro.
My Laptop runs Win7 Pro/Suse
I have a bootable USB Ubuntu drive for workshop use.
I have multiple Linux live disks.
My kids prefer Mint but need MS Office for school, yes I could use open office but MS is the lazy mans option so XP for them.
OS's are tools for a job, you use the best one for the circumstances.
To answer the question, I like Win 7 and Suse

Vista :)

You know, I was one of the few people I knew who actually liked Vista. Once you got past Service Pack 1, tweaked it a bit and knew what you were doing it was a pretty good OS!

OS's I like:
Windows 7 Pro 64-bit - for me because its good, stable, compatible, functions all work (once UAC is turned off) XP mode for older apps but rarely even need to use it.
98se - if could get away with still using this I would

OS's I'm glad are gone:
XP - yes it was the defacto standard for a long time but its a virus/malware magnet. limited features pain to install on new systems with sata controllers in AHCI. too many known issues.
Vista - although I never had a problem with it, its unforgiving in 64-Bit load
ME - do i really need to say anything we all feel the same
2000 - just becuase its times come and the fact that it didnt have msconfig by default
- All apple OSes - because steve jobs is the devil ;)
- All Linux OSes - just because it comes in so many flavors
- Windows Server 2008 SBS - Because Microsoft won't let us configure it how we could do with SBS 2003, issues pop up for no reason after no changes randomly after weeks of working fine.

For me, I've always pretty much liked whatever the latest version of Windows was. I liked '98 better than '95. From '98 I went to XP and loved it! I was on the Vista bandwagon from Day 1 and had basically no problems, or at least nothing more than one would expect with any new OS.

One thing I would say about Vista is that I used it from the very first day retail computers were shipped with it pre-installed and I have tons of customers who used and still use it. I've never see all the bugs and problems that everyone complains about. I also think that working on it is SO much easier than XP. I love seeing Vista machines come in and actually loathe working on XP machines now days.

Windows 7...surprise, I love it! I think it works great, looks great and has some nice new features. However, to be honest, it feels like a service pack update of Vista to me. Heck it's nearly identical except for the task bar.

So ya, I guess I just like whatever the "new and improved" version is.
