What is the best practice now for user creation when reinstalling Windows and the customer is not present?

Although I don't do setups very often these days I'm not a stickler for offline local accounts anymore. Between OneDrive, O365 or some other service most customers will be using Microsoft services of some type or another. Might as well have their online account created and linked to the machine. As it's been repeatedly stated, Google and Apple have made it the norm.

And all the more so if the setup is on a machine that's replacing another that already uses a Microsoft Account linked Win10 User Account. It keeps everything maximally organized and tidy.

Now that Windows 10 has been around for 7 years, I'm finding that fewer and fewer of my new computer setups are for individuals who do not already have a Microsoft Account, though not zero.

Ok, thanks for all the responses. Going forward, I'm just going to get their Microsoft account details and make sure I have them around at the time I need to sign-in, in case of MFA.

After all, I'm happy with setting them up using their Microsoft account, it was just a matter of the logistics of the process.

I should also expand on something I alluded to in my original post. If iyou build your Windows installer using an ISO and Rufus, it gives you an option when you're creating the USB stick to bypass the Microsoft account requirement. That worked for me just the other day.

I keep hearing this, and based on my history with Rufus I have to believe that so long as they state this is possible, it will work. It may eventually become impossible, but I'm sure the Rufus release where that occurs would note this.
