Good lord :( That's worse than my very first attempt on an old, broken laptop.

Is that a customer DIY job or from another repair company?

My opinion is: that's the most atrocious repair job I've ever seen :p

Customer did it to try and help his nephew. Gave it to me saying it won't charge....

The bottom left one makes me laugh..

We should have a "thread of shame" with pics like this in, showing people how not to do it. Did he use a bleedin' welder or something?!

I probably wouldn't touch that - or at least say you'll attempt the repair but it's not guaranteed/no-fix-no-fee.

At least your client had the decency to admit they tried working on it. I have had laptops come in with solder and rosin all over the place from an obvious attempt to resolder a broken jack and the client tells us nobody ever touched it before.

my last solder job wasnt the best job ive ever done but that was because the dc jack had broken a contact post and i needed to build up a pile of solder to bridge the conection back but at least it was tidy

You're one of those guys, huh?

who me na it was my laptop and i wernt gona spend that kinda cash when i could fix it that easily had it been anyone else id of given them two options

1 pay for the oem dc socket and ill fit it

2 if you really are strapped for cash i will fit a generic from a electronics store one to the bord but it may result in the port hole being modified to fit it

and both of those would of been done to the highest standard but because it was mine that was good enought because if the conection didnt hold which it did hold i would then either redo it or fit a generic one

edit i take the highest standerds when it comes to other peoples hardware i wouldnt even consider that kind of work with anyone elses hardware so please dont lable me for this

Power jacks cost $10 USD....or less.....and your pile of solder IS going to break a lot sooner than a replacement jack soldered correctly.

yea the one for this laptop was the board mount they wanted about 15-20 quid if it was a customer the generic would cost lime like 1 quid

plus i fixed it for free on my own so it was worth it

p.s the laptop is now 2 years old after that repair its still going strong so when it does break ill treat it to a new jack

Forgive me for not buying your story..... I don't really care...but

"my last solder job" and "The laptop's two years old after that repair"

Whatever. Doesn't matter to me. If it is truly your equipment, fine. If it's a customers, shame on you.
