Not sure what to quote here would like to know what you charge, thanks!

If I'm already making money off another service (data migration from an old XP to a new system), then I throw it in as "value added". I already charge more than most competitors around here for the service so I don't want to nickel-and-dime them over dropping a drive in a toaster and zeroing it out and then swinging by the local electronics recyclers next time I've got a few boxes.

No charge smash drive with hammer and pull ram and recycle the rest.

As I said, every one I've done so far has been with an existing work order. I suppose if someone called me out of the blue and asked for it, I'd probably charge them my workbench minimum of $29.

I just take out the hard drives and anything of use/value then take it to the local tip/dump the next time I'm going -- no charge.

It costs me nothing to take them to the tip if I'm already going there (the local tip doesn't charge anything unless you turn up in a commercial vehicle) and sometimes a few of the parts I acquire can be useful for future repairs/diagnostics.

Like others, I regard it as a quid pro quo arrangement. They get rid of their old machine and I get a few free spare parts. Quite a few have bought replacement systems entire, so you sometimes acquire a decent monitor etc too.

Starting price if it's to be documented...$100.00
By "documented"...I mean we use our drive erase machine which certifies the drive as destructed, printing out the method used, the make/model and we time stamp it...providing the customer with a "Certificate of Destruction" and we keep a copy.

If it's an MSP client of ours, we'll reduce the rate to like 50 bucks.
If it's a client getting workstation replacement/upgrade, same.

If it's a client and we're replacing many workstations at once..we'll drop it a little further.

thanks guys, I usually don't charge if I'm doing a new pc setup, but thats all they want, so maybe I'll just charge $25.

We only take in laptops and netbooks. No charge and we can give them the hard drive or destroy it. Some want it destroyed in front of them but I don't do that so I either offer to give it to them or not take the machine. If the drive is inside and we need to take it apart we charge $20 to remove the drive but they have to come back for it the next day.

We are getting more recent machines, especially "cooked" machines with bad SB or GPU issues but the rest of the machine is good. Sometimes I keep the guts as we can use them elsewhere. Ram, HD, LCD, WIFI, batteries all are saved and used in machines where the customer is willing to take a used part.

When we come onsite to migrate an old PC and data to a new PC, I always ask what they're planning on doing with the old PC. I tell them we'll take it away and dispose it (after physically smashing the HD) for no charge -- it's an "added value" we provide for our customers. About 8 times out of 10, they readily agree and thank us.

Back in the office, we always destroy the HD. (There's something psychologically satisfying about beating an HD to smithereens with a sledge hammer, especially if accompanied by a maniacal laugh! :))

If the PC has some life left in it, we may refurbish and resell it, else strip it for parts. Sometimes it's so old that we simply trash it as-is.

And every once in a while, you get a gem of a discarded PC: like the customer two weeks ago who gave us a Dell Studio XPS with an Intel i7, 6GB , 1TB HD and a 24" monitor! Her husband had passed away about 6 months earlier and she was moving to a laptop and didn't want all that "junk" cluttering up her den!

Usually clients just want to give me their computers because they don't want anything to do with them. I will dispose of it for them at no cost because usually I am setting up a new computer for them anyway and have done the data transfer. I will give them their hard drive though for piece of mind.
