I have ruled out hardware by replacing the cpu, system board and the hard drive.

I have ran eset, avg, malwarebytes, mbar, ccleaner, adwcleaner etc..

Tasklist only shows the wfs.exe process.

The only thing I have not done is reload the os, still not a option at this point.

Any ideas? anyone seen this before.

I Appreciate any feedback.

Someone online says this is Windows fax and scan. They reported issue in Vista and apparently installing vista sp2 did the job. Maybe system restore and clean from that direction?

Turn off WFS and see if it goes to sleep. If it doesn't then it might be something else.

I'd try a system restore .. no harm in the easy fixes.

Beyond that, isn't that on the list of software you can add/remove from the control panel? Remove and add it back. Give it a shot.

Tried Rogue killer? Maybe use hijackthis to kill that process. Kapersky rescue cd?

did also try roguekiller and hijackthis, still has the same issue.

Seems its getting worse.
Locked me out of the remote session twice in the last 2 days.

usually you can close the windows fax and scan and the cpu usage drops back to normal.

I did removed windows fax and scan completely,
Installed the brother software for the printer, tried scanning with that,, and guess what.
100% cpu usage

It looks like we will have to reload this system.
