Welcome Back Commodore!

Bah.
They plan to run a modified Ubuntu.
No I'll stick to the real next-gen Amigas...
ACube Systems SAM 440/460 boards and AmigaOS 4.1

Lol.... geekfest :)

I just dont get the appeal. I loved my Sinclair machines, and enjoyed playing on friends C64's, had a ball with Amigas ... 386's, 486's, P 1, 2, 3, 4..... but I have no inclination to go back there:confused:

The popularity is lost on me. Gimme a core i7 with SSD's and a hot gaming card anyday :):)

Yep, I had a rubber keyboard Spectrum, Amiga, Amstrad 1512, 386dx .... But they're history.

I can't really see the appeal to be honest. I had the original C64 and absolutely loved it but that wasn't because it was "a good basic computer for work, for email, for multimedia use, for even basic gaming"; it was because at the time it was quite powerful and had some great features that made it really interesting to play with. The main one I think was that the the 64 meg RAM memory space was partially overlaid with the OS ROM. You could easily copy the ROM into the underlying RAM and then switch the computer to read from that RAM instead of the ROM. That meant you could hack the OS even though it was in firmware. You could then do all sorts of stuff like creating split screen effects to double the number of sprites, hack into game bootloaders and the like.

I learned how to program in machine code using the advanced book you could get for it and learned a ton about how computers really work. And because it was so basic and simple in those days, even a kid like I was had a chance of understanding it. I can't see any of that being the case with this new one. This is just nostalgia for the case and little more.

Commodore 64 was my first computer back in the day. That thing was awesome for its time. Cant say I'd buy one now, but its still cool to see them using the name again.

At first when I saw that commodore64 was the last poster to this thread I felt like a kid getting a letter from Santa :-)

Thanks for the let down lol.
