What brand of compressed air are many of you using? Let me know the brand haha . Dust tends to "stick" everywhere and those cans only seem to remove like half of the dust. When it's bad; as ive seen before. Your gonna need a little more than compressed air.

if i were to add dust removal to a tuneup the price of the tuneup would go up. Which would be unfair to the customer because not everyone needs their case cleaned out and its a time consuming process if you do it thoroughly. Dust gets in the most annoying places; under the mobo, inside the heat sink, in the fans, etc..

You've gotta be kidding, you'd really increase the price just for removing dust?

Ok fine you see as an extra but most of us include it as a tune up. I know some machines are dustier than others but some machine are more cluttered and require more time in other areas. Swings and roundabouts as we say in the UK

Also depends on the size of the case or how compact it it. Laptops with smaller profiles tend to be louder and the fans tend to work harder.. because of the lack of circulation.. All those extra RPMs pull in dust FAST.. If you have a moderately dirty house the inside can be filthy in like a 1-2 months. This isn't usually as much of a problem in larger, more spacious cases. It all depends on the machine and the user's home. But yeah, this is slightly off topic lol

eek! I use a compressor that is on one of my trucks.... it's got air dryers etc... so it's safe for electronics... costs me maybe $0.50/for 5mins in fuel (runs off a generator on one of my service trucks)
Honestly if using some air on a PC will cost too much maybe you should raise the price of a tuneup???

yep.... I use a compressor that is on one of my trucks.... it's got air dryers etc... so it's safe for electronics... costs me maybe $0.50/for 5mins in fuel (runs off a generator on one of my service trucks)

I don't have a compressor or a truck lol... or a generator. Until I'm decked out with all that equipment it can be time consuming. Time consuming.. not expensive to do lol. Curious, where did you get your compressor and how much did it run you?

I usually use my lungs, but if the customer wants to pay an extra £50 then I use one of these

Sightly off topic - I have recently had one of my big clients (optician), who has a machine upstairs, where they do all the grinding of the lenses etc. Anyhow this machine was on the floor, right next to the 'white dust' collector. This machine had a bag over the case. Complaint was that the machine wouldn't boot.

Anyhow, I get there, remove the bag, open the case up, and WOAH!. If there was 1mm of dust in there, there was 4-5mm dust build up!.

All of this grinding minute glass particles, were being sucked in from the intake fan at the front of the case. This 'dust' was everywhere. I brought it back to the workshop to clean everything out. In the end it ended up being a complete strip down (clean) and rebuild, to remove all traces off this dust. Everything was clogged up to high heaven. You would of thought that everything inside this case was white!. I'm surprised it only took out the psu.

After replacing the PSU, adding a couple of extra outtake fans, and telling my client to move this machine, either to another room (which is preferable), or somehow adding another form of dust extraction to the grinding machine, the pc is working.

I felt guilty charging my client for the strip down, and rebuild. But in the end, it all took time.

As for adding this as an additional service. I agree with the majority, it should be included in the tune up, as a free service.

Well for a decent setup you can get up and going for about $250ish.... you NEED an air dryer though -- otherwise you'll pepper the unit with water.

Mine was a lot more, but it was all built into the truck already -- was a fiber truck for Verizon before I bought it - 1997 GMC Savana 3500, with a 15' box, all aluminum, wall to wall counters and shelving, 4cyl ford engine running a 10kw generator, 2 compressors, 4 heaters, ac units, bench power fresh air for underground work, winch, ramps, lights and more.... truck only had 65,000 miles, ran me about $8,500 2yrs ago..... horrible fuel mileage, but amazing for work!! otherwise I run mostly dodge Caravans for the rest of the techs.... the big truck is only when needed, so it spends a lot of time parked by the back door with the air hoses running into the store.

As for time.... takes maybe ten minutes to get em cleaned out good..... not good but not bad - it's also why I employ grunts lol the newbs can do that and list stuff on ebay lol

I have a compressor back at the workshop with a 20mtr reel hose, total cost $199. In my car i have a portable electric compressor, cost me $89 but it works really well for PCs

I've given up on the cans. They are useless in my opinion.

I just retired my compressor in favour of a Metro Data Vac.

What you linked makes so much more sense, you don't have to worry about blasting dust and whatever else is in the case all over the shop, or worse a customers house. Nothing like feeling sick after blowing 4 years of cigarettes, pets and whatever else into your lungs.
