Website rating

I show up first when searching for my local city and computer repair. And last I checked I show up first for my province and computer repair.

I know that Google says that using Adwords does not affect the standard ratings, but I noticed that my general ranking (non-adwords) went up shortly after signing up for adwords. Coincidence? maybe.

I also did A LOT of playing with keywords in my site and ensuring that I showed up in Google Maps.

Google has a page somewhere that explains what they look for in websites and what not to do i.e hide text etc.

When I resdesigned my website I followed these guides, about 4 weeks after i was third.

What I have found though, not sure if its the same in other countries, google maps shows first above all the resaults so most people use this. Which isn't very good when you spend time and money (luckily I did it myself but some people pay £££'s for CEO)

SEO!!! SEO!!! SEO!!!

There are 2 types of SEO methods. There is "On-Page" and "Off-Page". For the on-page seo tactics, you're looking at things like
  1. putting keywords in your directory and page names
  2. putting some key words in your meta data
  3. using the STRONG tag to highlight those keywords
  4. putting your keywords in the text without putting it into a list. Lists look spammy to engines.
  5. using your website to link back to yourself using specific anchor text
  6. having a blog to do more of the same from number 5
For the off-pagemethods, you're looking at:
  1. getting links!!!
  2. Specifically getting links from sites whose topics are similar to yours.
  3. The more links the better. The more separate domains, the better.

semrush.com see what keywords in google your site ranks and you can compare your competition. It's great, my site ranks high on a lot of good keywords.
