OK, so most of you know that I'm from the central part of the US (Indiana to be exact) and we have had our first major icing event overnight. In fact we are currently under an "Ice Storm Warning." The freezing rain is still falling and the drivers in my part of the world completely lose their minds whenever we have any weather, other than dry conditions. I'm sure there will be many incidents / accidents today in my part of the world.

Just though I'd share and to thank goodness I don't have to drive in this mess - although the weather reports say that this will be over with mid-day (here.) They also say that we had about .5 inches of freezing rain - I heard it start about 7 hours ago.

Happy, Happy :) :) :) :) :) ;)

I'm a few more degrees of latitude north of yours and luckily we don't get many icing events up here. My biggest fear of them is the extended power outages when they drop power lines.

"Icing event"? We just get plain old ice here ;):p

The Late Great George Carlin said:
Weathermen on television talk about "shower activity". Sounds more important than "showers." I even heard one guy on CNN talk about a "rain event".

I swear to God, he said, "Louisiana is expecting a rain event." And I thought, "Holy ****, I hope I can get tickets to that!"

Just to the north of you - South Bend. Snowing pretty good here. We should end up with 3 inches on the ground. Beware! The crazy drivers will be out today. So, Im staying home and just putter around the shop today.

Every year on the first snow fall we get a bunch of accidents.

You put a one-word hypertext link in a spoiler tag? WHY?
Haha. I don't know.

I put the George Carlin clip directly in there to begin with, with a YouTube 'current time' URL that started the clip at the part I quoted, only to discover the forum strips off the time parameter when it embeds the video. So I changed it into a link instead which, admittedly, does now make the spoiler tags a bit redundant.

I hate spoiler tags. It just makes you have to click several times. The whole point of the embedded video link is the convenience of having it right there.

Yeah, Adelaide is about to get HOT! From now on the temperature will climb into the mid 40's
I really don't like the high temps but not much we can do about it. Bushfires always a threat (not for me personally) as well.
Not looking forward to power bills with air con running 24/7.

The heat makes people crazy!

The Mid 40s! Seriously over 110 Fahrenheit. That's gotta put a serious strain on the power grid.
In past years , yes it regularly overloaded the grid and caused blackouts. Then they started cutting power in different locations for up to an hour each time to allay the inevitable outages. .
But this year - thanks to Elon Musk, - we have "the worlds largest battery" as well as new solar and wind farms to help, so power failure should be minimal.

Pfft! It's snowed three times here already and there is 5 inches of snow on the ground. It's 12 degrees F right now...... Friends to the north may be used to this but not here. My brother in Alaska says it was 48 degrees there yesterday and they have yet to see snow.

This is going to be one cold winter this year already breaking records getting Feb temps already.

It is cold and snowing here again in SE Wisconsin this morning and this is our 4th snowfall this year. Nothing major just a few inches each time but way to early for multiple snow falls like this here. Even one of our nearby ski hills Little Switzerland opened this weekend and that is their earliest opening date ever.

I never thought so many of us were around the same spot! I’m in northern Michigan here. It’s been single digits at night which is early here for us too. I don’t mind the snow but I’m originally from a state that gets ice. Ice isn’t fun for anyone.

Meanwhile down here in AZ, it's unseasonably warm. We seem to be on target for an upper 80s if not low 90s for Thanksgiving.

Extreme weather the weather in my area has been extremes from huge storms with -27c weather then 12C next day seems to be getting more common now high winds have blown trees into power lines causing fires and blackouts like never seen before odd thing its not in news local or otherwise they seem to be bomb micro down bursts that weather is not common to this area.
