Hi! I have tried 4 times to install sp2 and everytime it gets at 100% then goes to reverting changes....fail. The error is E_fail(0x80004005) things I have tried:

set all security settings to default
disabled all antivirus/superantispyware
ran system update readiness tool
tried to install in safe mode
downloaded and manually tried to install
no other hard drives connected, or extra partitions besides recovery
ran sfc

agh, help.

heres the sfc cbs.log file errors, could they be causes?

Well you can try uninstalling sp1, reinstalling sp1 then installing sp2

I just read that the E_FAIL(0x80004005) error could be related to drive confusion, the recovery partition in this system is active along with the C drive partition, it also is initialized, I wonder if removing the letter and making it inactive would do it???

I know this is an old thread, but I am running into this issue, did you ever find a solution? I also have a recovery partition drive I am thinking about disabling.

I'm not sure I remember but it may have worked by installing safe mode or I downloaded it again.
