I acquired a new client that is running vipre and I know nothing about them. They have enterprise addition with 10 licenses. It appears that the software is on complete lock down on the server level. I am wondering should I put the effort into learning about the software and keeping it or put time in to learn how to uninstall it and put something on it that I am knowledgeable off.

ps sitting on server 2003

Learn it, I think it's a good software and very light on workstations

+1 I use VIPRE and like it as well, learn it and use it. If you give it a chance and actually see problems related to VIPRE that you are unable to resolve then maybe suggest change, but I doubt you will find a need for change.;)

I recommend learning it. Vipre has been growing in popularity, especially since it's bundled with some MSP products now. It's has a good detection/cleaning record, as well as being noted for lightness.

No antivirus is 100% perfect in detection....no matter what brand you use..you'll get some rigs that get infected. Some people think kaspersky is the best...yet yesterday I had the pleasure of cleaning 2x different laptops that had rogues on them....and both had kaspersky on them.

Uninstall it and then do a proper reinstall. Make sure the program and definitions are up to date.

Vipre is a very secure product, I use it on all Business accounts. It can be configured to be extremely secure, also I have found their Tech Support to be very helpful. Have you considered calling them for help getting past the Admin issues?

Most "business grade" packages of antivirus come with a central management console, and the clients are locked down with a password...to prevent end users from messing about with the software, or uninstalling it. That password is what will prevent him from uninstalling it...unless he has it (appears KRT provided the default one to him).

Vipre has more holes than swiss cheese. It does nothing. If you're looking for a good product, check out AV-Comparatives.org. Note that Vipre isn't even there. There's a reason for that.

How much do you like your client? Be straight up with them. Tell them "I can troubleshoot this for you, but it's garbage. You'll have more problems within 12 months. OR we can get rid of it and put something better on there for you. Yes, I appreciate that you bought it but you're also paying for the repairs because it broke, and they get considerably more expensive <chuckle>"

I've been evaluating Vipre Business for myself so that I can offer it to clients, but it's given me nothing but problems. I installed it on two different test machines, and both kept on blue-screening upon waking from sleep. This even on a brand new build. Their tech support was useless. I tried everything they said and nothing helped. It didn't even update automatically on a consistent basis on a few machines I've tested their "agent" on.

Not true. It's listed as GFI, but rated only Standard, along with AVG and MSE, thanks to poor detection and high false positives.

Right.. I have NO idea where my brain was at. In another post I actually mentioned GFI=Vipre. Sorry for the misinformation....but it's still crummy as you amptly pointed out. We always felt that it was just a bad spoof of Panda.

i use viore and it is by far the best av in my opinion. picks up everything i though at it. great detection rate i feel. anyways this is just my opinion

Had it bung up email clients yet? If not, you haven't seen enough Vipre installs. It tanks it...good. Then again, so does Norton.

It changes frequently. I monitor the industry almost monthly now.

For the moment, it's Kaspersky Internet Security, followed by Eset Smart Security for consumers. Panda Cloud Protection for corporate. Avast for a free solution.

Right. So you don't have any specific company you partner with for reselling?

I would be concerned at chopping and changing and how that affects my credibility in the customers eyes.

Edit: KIS is very memory intensive. I was running it on my Core2Quad (can't remember exact speed right now) 4Gb ram win7 machine and it ground it to a halt. Multitasking went out the window.

The eset and panda I have No experience of.

I need one that is light on the machine and effective at the same time.

I do work with another company who use GData for their clients.
