Not sure if its the monitor or video card that has a problem.

This has happened to my desktop PC many times already. While using the computer, the monitor would just disconnect (not shut down) and turn black. After restart, the monitor returns back to normal. After a few minutes then the screen turns black again. I doubt that the monitor has connection problems, probably the video card?

This forum is intended to be a professional reference for those in the IT field who have dedicated themselves to the industry. As such we do not offer DIY advice. We do not do it to be obnoxious or unhelpful but rather most folks are better served by consulting a professional. The nature of computers is such that without IT knowledge, experience, education, and training there is the potential for additional loss including that of data-loss.

For those reasons we really cannot get involved in assisting you in troubleshooting it further.

What I will say is that in my troubleshooting, I already have a STRONG "hunch" which is the culprit. Any super-tech on this site would have to "check" the system to determine which is the problem and then verify the fix...

CompTIA Troubleshooting Steps:

Identify the problem.
Establish a theory of probable cause.
Test the theory to determine cause.
Establish a plan of action to resolve the problem and implement the solution.
Verify full system functionality and if applicable implement preventative measures.
Document findings, actions, and outcomes.

Sounds like a driver issue to me driver loads everything is fine then fails and everything goes black.

Restart and everything works rinse and repeat
