Ok, this one is actually my personal system, but I'd like to get some input. I'm still a bit of a gamer and so still have my gaming system which is posted below.
Specs.
AMD FX 8120 8 core CPU---Overclocked to 4ghz by raising the multiplier alone, no voltage increase, temps always cool, like right now for example, temps are between 16 and 25 degrees celcius(have a cooler master v6 gt tower cooler on it with push pull fans)
Gigabyte 970-ud3 motherboard
Radeon 7850 2gb card
GSkill Ripjaws ddr3 1600 memory
2 hard drives(1 250gb the other a 640gb)
Ultra LSP 650 watt power supply(If I had to say there's a weak point in my PC probably my power supply as this unit is 5-6 years old. However, when I look at the voltages in my hardware monitor, all voltages seem to be within specs and don't seem to fluctuate much.
OS-Windows 8.1 64 bit.
Here's the deal. Most of the time things work ok. Overclock has been stable for going on a year.
But I get random usb disconnects. I don't remember this happening at all with Windows 7. But like for example, I use a usb wifi adapter, I've tried at least a couple, and at random times under heavier load the wifi adapter just checks out. In other words, Windows just drops it like the adapter isn't even there. I plug into another port not on the same header on the motherboard, and it's fine for a while until it does it again.
I've had this happen with other things too though, like sometimes you boot and the keyboard isn't recognized. Unplug it, plug back in, it's fine. Operationally system is great, I can game run scans etc as much as I want. I've turned the power management features all off in bios and in Windows also. Even followed a couple of things in this thread. Oh, and drivers were updated. Have not flashed bios yet though.

Things have seemed to improved. Just wondering what it could be. I actually had an amazon gift card and found a little pci card that gives like 6 usb outputs for cheap shipped so I figured I would grab one since with the gift card it was free. Just wondering what is going on. The other night this actually happened with the keyboard.
My thoughts now are replace power supply in case it's having any trouble and it's getting older. I can always relegate it to testing.
*Edit* this happens on front panel or rear panel usb ports. Also since I followed the steps in the thread above from tomshardware.com, it seems to have made it so that it's not happening as often. Maybe when I push it hard. Only had the settings in a little while, so will know more as time goes on.
