Hey Everyone,
I have a computer in at the moment which is displaying a bsod with the following error:

Unmountable boot volume 0x000000ED

i have encountered this problem before and a chkdsk /r normally repairs it but in this case it has not.

This is what ive tried so far:
Last known good configuration (never worked).
safe mode for system restore (wont boot in to safe mode).
chkdsk /r (said it found and repaired issues but still wont boot).
Fixboot and fixmbr (went through fine but still wont boot).
bootcfg /rebuild (failed to successfully scan disks for windows installations. it then sugests to use chkdsk which i have done).
booted into windows disk to run a repair install but the option was not there.
I have also tested the hdd and the memory which have both passed.

I would be greatful for any ideas or advice!!!

Thanks in advance guys.

Run chkdsk over and over again until it comes back saying "no errors". You will have to run it more than once. Just run it over and over from the CD. *THEN* try again.

Otherwise:

  1. Load BIOS to default settings
  2. If it's a 40-wire cable, replace it with an 80-wire cable
  3. Replace the IDE cable
  4. Check for Boot Sector Viruses. See if you can get it to mount. Run chkdsk from your computer on the drive if needed. Plug the harddrive into one of your computers. Run multiple full antivirus scans on the drive.
  5. (make an image of the harddrive before you try this). Plug the drive into one of YOUR computers and try working on it. See if you can do a repair install on it in your computer (which should let it boot on your computer). This might rule out a problem with the client's IDE Controller causing trouble.

These are mostly shots in the dark based off of random googling. Best of luck!
