Hello,

I'm trying to transfer a archive.pst file from a hard drive on my client's computer to one of my external hard drives. Drive is pulled from his machine and is attached to one of my PCs. I was able to transfer all other data including the outlook.pst file but this one isn't transferring. It is about 1.5GB.

It goes about 3/4 away and just sits there. I changed all the permissions but still a no go.

Any ideas?

Sounds like the hard drive could be on its way out, run chkdsk /r across it and try again to pull the file off using Unstopable Copier or similar. If it is a hard drive fault chances are the PST file will be corrupted.

Is this an old computer? The hdd might have a defective cluster or something preventing to copy the file correctly. Windows has the bad habit to just go in a loop when it can't read a part of a file and doesn't always time out after a while. Try running a quick chkdsk and SMART tests to see if the drive is fine. I also had issues once when the installed A-V would scan the file like mad preventing any copy to occur. If all is fine, maybe a defrag can help relocate stuff.

My 2c from past experiences.

EDIT: Lol looks like I got beaten to it =). Good thing we got to the same conclusion tho.

Try also this just so:

in a console window which strongly resembles a dos window but isn't a dos window type the following.

attrib -r -h -s -a c:\somedirectory\somesubdirectory\somereallysubdirectory\outlook.pst

i do not know why but it is characterizable sometimes.
