UK WebHosts - Who do you use?

Hi guys,

I am looking into moving my website to a new host, as it is currently hosted by my ISP (Plusnet). As you can imagine this ties me down, and means that I cannot move by broadband connection until I have a separate host for the website.

I realise this has probably been asked before but people change hosts, and problems occur and opinions change. So who do you currently use as your Web host and how do you rate them?

I have been looking at JustHost and FastHost but there seem to be a lot of conflicting reviews.

I need to be able to transfer 2 domains to them, host the website and email and Joomla must be supported. Anything on top of that is a bonus.

Thanks in advance.:D

I've been using Flexihostings.net for quite a number of years. They have data centers in 3 or 4 locations. I used to be hosted in the US but just recently asked to be moved to Europe(Amsterdam) and I have had a few problems since but they have been fine otherwise.

I used to use Fasthosts but they became very expensive. The last year I have used www.webhosting.uk.com who are reasonably priced and never had a problem with them. Even the cheapest package (£30 per year) lets you host unlimited domains, unlimited mySQL and they do automated wordpress/joomla etc via cpanel or just manual install if you prefer.

My traffic isn't huge so I host my IT site and a separate wordpress blog on the same hosting account - I'm not a website expert so there was a bit of a learning curve with sub domains etc but got it all set up without needing their support.

Only time I ever needed their help (locked out of FTP) they fixed it same day.

I use 34sp never had any problems with them but I am moving it to a cheaper host in Jan where I have a better hosting package I use multiple domains with. I have forgotton the name of the company I use for that though!.

ive used catalyst2.com for a few years. This was way back when. They were cheap, ie a 1gb site, with 1gb bandwidth cost me £11.99 pr year.

Been using Vidahost for 2 years now after being recommended to use them by a friend.
They are top notch. Every problem I have had (even .htaccess mistakes) have been fixed very promptly. Their customer service is excellent and I have only had 1 day of downtime in the 2 years I have been with them.

Would seriously recommend these guys.

Thanks guys, that gives me plenty to go on. I need to get away from Plusnet as my ISP :D

Just wanted to thank everyone for their comments.

After a great deal of research and emailing various hosts, I decided to go with Vidahost which edgepcs recommended.

Dominic at Vidahost http://www.vidahost.com/ has been great helping me move both my business and personal domains, and then getting my Joomla site over. All completed within 24hrs. For a small company they really do offer a personal service. I would certainly recommend these guys.

Another option that doesnt seem to have been discussed is to get a dedicated server, especially if you host other peoples websites as well as your own.
We have one with CWCS and its been great, the support is A1 and it gives us another income stream from the people that host with us.

I have talked to this person on numerous occassions and he seems to know what he is doing

Thanks for the recommendation Dan (and Steven) :o

We resell Heart Internet services, and have been very impressed with what they offer... and therefore others are impressed with what we can offer. I've put together a promo rate for ACRBO members, and usually happy to negotiate and help others out where I can.

Steve

UK Hosting

I have just recently moved from a US to a UK based web host and it was the best move I made for my website. I had terrible support from my previous host but since I have moved to EUK Host, no problems at all.

Any vote for EUK Host.
