Ubiquiti's UXG Lite...replacement for the USG3p

They hit the US stores last week, we ordered a half dozen.
We tend to use the larger more powerful 1U gateways more often, but it's nice to have a replacement for the little desktop one.
10 bucks cheaper than the USG3p was, it's even smaller, allows you to provision to your own controller (we use Hostifi)...nice to not have a built in controller like the Dreamies for some scenarios. The USG3p slowed down to about 85 megs with security enabled.
1 gig of throughput even with IDS/IPS enabled...pretty good.
For such a small sized device, it's heavier than expected.

Depending on the weight, which I can't imagine is substantial, industrial-grade velcro works just fine. Specifically the stuff that isn't "fuzzy" on either side, but has small, interlocking "fingers" of a sort on each side.

Agreed....we used to often use this wider 3M black velcro tape.
Lately...ever see a product called "Alien Tape"? It's clear.

Problem with those is...when you remove the product....the part of the tape that adhered to the wall (often a painted wall, sheetrock)...takes paint with it. Leaving a big open wound behind.
For a wood surface though I'd still use.

And as I compared these two products on my desk, I'll note that the much smaller plastic encased UXG Lite is actually heavier than the metal chassis and larger USG3p.

I was editing as you were typing. I like the style of the stuff I gave the link to because you can generally use much less of it and still get insanely secure attachment, particularly if you use three small pieces in a triangle formation or four, one at each corner. It also makes it easy to use a razor to take the stuff that sticks to the wall off if that occasion presents itself without leaving gaping holes.

Wouldn't be surprised if there isn't already a 3D printer file out there to make your own wall mount for this.

You can buy nice wall mounts for Apple TVs and Roku Ultras, for about $20 on Amazon. Should be easy to make one for this.

I'm thinking it is....at first I thought it was, well, like a little USG...with a built in cloud key. Meaning..it's the gateway/router.
But reading up on it, it appears you can ALSO use multiple ones on the same network, and hang them off of it via ethernet to be like little satellite APs...or...wireless mesh 'em.

So yeah, looks like you can buy a bunch of them, and set them up like Google Wifi, or Eerio, or Netger Orbi, or...etc etc.
They may arrive at our office early next week but I'm a bit oversubscribed for the month of Dec so not sure when I get take a few outta the box and play.

On the FAQ they say "UniFi Express supports up to 5 connected UniFi Network devices, including other UniFi Express units, switches, and WiFi access points." So it only looks like you at max can have 5 UniFi devices which is disappointing.
And "Each UniFi Express can support 60+ connected client devices."

Yeah it can only run the network app..and it's a "lite" version. For the dirt cheap price, being sold as a very small entry level unit, it's pretty cool. If you have more than 5 Unifi network devices(so...4x more Unifi devices plus itself...it counts itself in that total of 5)...naturally you'd be stepping up to a mid range or higher unit. This little thing is aimed at the tiny networks of a couple of users....little office of under 6, etc, SOHO-ish stuff.

Knew there had to be a catch when this thing is cheaper than a Cloud Key Gen2 while acting as a router and access point on top of running the controller.

Still an interesting device for small networks and home users. An express + 16 port switch + one or two additional access points and you have a very nice network stack on a tiny budget.
