By that, I mean one that has been "tweaked" with all kinds of spyware/virus-removing goodies, like SAS, MBAM, GMER, Unhackme, etc.

Seeing lots more of the crap that can't be cleaned UNLESS from a bootable CD. Have yet to come across a "perfect" UBCD4Wind to remove this stuff, tool-wise.

Yes, I could make one myself, but in the amount of time that takes, I could fix several computers. Just wondering if anyone has one they'd like to torrent. Could be a private one between Technibble folk, I'm guessing.

I've dl'ed the V3.50 elsewhere on a torrent, but Antivir reports out of date, and the only useful tool on it, spyware-wise, is SAS. It does auto-update when ya start it, though.

Don't you update the tools before you burn the disc? To update Antivir and other tools,
  1. Open the UBCD4Win program
  2. Click on "Plugins"
  3. Select Antivir or whatever AV program you want to update the definitions for
  4. Click on "Config"
  5. When that finishes, go on to the next one.
  6. After you've updated them all, create the ISO or burn the disc.
By using this new window, you can also choose which programs to include or remove.

I don't mean to be critical of you but are you really having to use a boot disc to fix PCs? Maybe your seeing some things I'm not running into in my area. What is it your running into that you can't remove without a boot disc?

You should really just build your own. You're going to need to apply updates, anyway, and it's easy to do that once it's configured.
I personally won't upload mine, because it's branded and has commercial plugins that I paid for.

lawson_jl; I don't know if I've ran into anything that couldn't be removed without a boot disc, but it makes it a whole lot easier. I boot it up, scan for viruses, clean the registry, then boot into windows and run normal removal tools. It helps get some things out of the way that can give you trouble. I could do the same thing by pulling the hard drive, but I'd rather boot to a disc.
It's not just about removing viruses, either. UBCD4Win has some seriously useful tools, in general.

Regarding lawson's comment, Virut, amongst others. I just had a computer that would not allow any access to the computer (My Computer, drives, etc.) in normal mode, and would not show a desktop in Safe Mode. Once I booted up UBCD4Win and used SAS, I was then able to boot into Safe Mode and run the rest of the tools necessary to knock down said beast.

And yes, I'm certainly not advocating anyone putting out a boot CD that has items on it with personal or corporate licenses they purchased. I was referring to the myriad of free tools most of us use to remove this stuff.

one program i use when stuff like that happens is rootrepeal you have to know what your doing ie don't delete a system file from windows but it's sooo easy to use compared to gmer.

Adding rootrepeal to ubcd4win is simple replace rootkitty with rootrepeal in plugin dir.

You know that's interesting that you guys don't/haven't thought of doing all virus cleanups this way. At least for me when I go into customer's computers and stuff, it usually takes 5-10 minutes to boot anyways cause of all the crap, but then sometimes my flash drive will take forever to open up, then you have a scan going but it's being slowed down by all the crap and viruses and rootkits running.

Wouldn't it just be a lot faster to boot the customers PC with a boot cd and kill all the spyware and viruses first?

I mean I suppose you could be using safemode for virus and spyware scans. However, I have found that scans run slower in safe mode.

Wasn't my intention to make this a hot-button issue. Thought it could benefit all of us here, that's all. Matter of fact, I'll be creating one soon. Thanks for the input everyone.
