So I had a laptop come in. Had one of those fake repair viruses. Easily took care of it and cleaned it up. Then I saw her Trend was up to date and subscribed but she was using an older version of the program. So I decided to upgrade. I should have uninstalled the old version of Trend first, but here is what I did.
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit
So I start the installer, and it uninstalls the old version of trend for me, then reboots and starts the install. Then near the end, not sure exactly when, it says installation failed.
Error 1603, 3002 (or 3003 can't remember since I am at home).
It partially installed since Trend is running the in tray but it will not open and there is no entry in the start menu or installed programs.
So I killed the trend processes and deleted the folders and registry entries. Rebooted and tried it again. Failed.
I've tried:
chkdsk
sfc /scannow
Fixit for program installs
Tried steps in these:

I'm sure I have tried more but I can't remember as I tried installing it about 8 times and it is getting a little aggravating. I probably should have tried to reinstall Windows installer.
Last thing I did is I started an in place upgrade of Windows 7. So I will see what I can do tomorrow.
