Hi Guys,

I am looking for a simple (if possible FREE!) program to transfer a Thunderbird Email Account to Microsoft Outlook 2007.

This is a one-off job that I will need to perform, so I do not want to waste good money on expensive conversion software, and would therefore be grateful to hear from any member who has performed this task successfully.

Regards,

Brian

Yes, IMAP is the simplest way to do that. If the original email account does not support it, you can use free email servers like hMailServer https://www.hmailserver.com/download
It can be installed on any windows system and supports IMAP. Just use it as a temporary server and you should be fine

If I understand properly, all the messages are still on the email server as the account is IMAP on the Thunderbird. Then, if you install Outlook, it shoud be able to get the inbox messages with just a send/receive button click. Now, you say that you prefer set up Outlook with a POP account. I would set both IMAP and POP in order to be able to drag and drop other folders to the POP account from IMAP account (I mean stuff like sent items and other folders that will not be automatically pulled down from the server). After the migration is done, you will just have to remove the IMAP account from Outlook.

The existing email account is IMAP, but once transferred to Outlook I would much prefer to use a POP account.

Then it's easy. Mail is not stored locally.....it's on the server. One of the advantages of the newer IMAP protocol which was designed for multiple devices to connect to the same mail account. Versus the ancient POP protocol which was around back when people were lucky to have maybe 1x device to check e-mail from...and it was all stored locally.

Although...2007 already past it's prime, nearing end of life...time to update their version of Office. 2007 was a bit clunky with some things.

Thanks Guys - I like Fabs suggestion of using an IMAP & POP installation alongside each other in order to grab the IMAP folders and transfer them to a POP installation.

Although I use Office 2013 myself, I still like working with Office 2007 Professional, as do many of my customers.
