I have never seen this done before or heard anyone discuss this.

I feel this could be very useful and helpful to others out there.

I wrote a how to on spiceworks on how to accomplish this task.

You have to use the pro version of Total Uninstall which is $40.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Many other threads on this and the ability is not new. Aloha bob/laplink has been around at least since win 95 days if not longer.

Yup, and most of them work fairly well *IF* the "from" and "to" OSes are the same (e.g. XP to XP, Vista to Vista, 7 to 7, 32-bit to 32-bit). Results are very dicey when "to" is different than "from".

Don't waste your time. It usually ends up a nightmare. Sometimes they work but mostly it's easier to re install programs from disks or download. Time consuming yes but if you prepare in advance re installing programs will go smother. I think a program that works every time with no problems is the "Holy Grail" in the computer repair business!! (AT least one of them)
But it's fun to try everything.

OH okay never heard of that program and haven't come across a solution personally. I have had great success this way and the programs have never seem to cause an issue.

I will say I would rather do a clean install from disc or setup file. However there has been instances in the past where the software was no longer readily available no matter where you looked. Something like this was the only/best solution.

The program you mentioned I noticed did not have the greatest reviews, have you personally used that program and did it work every time?

Also quick comment, I have done this successfully between different OS's also. I have never had it not work and have tried small applications and large many GB's in size games.

Just figured I would share the method as others may find it useful.

Looks like an interesting program(have heard of it before but never used it).

However, that software accomplishes a completely different task.

What I'd like to find, is a program that does this in offline mode, e.g. for programs on systems whose MB has seen its last days but whose HDD is healthy.

Virtual Machine. Make the hard drive virtual, run it, and then use one of the programs like PC Mover. Works pretty well.

Rick, so basically lets say the computer died for what ever reason. Are you saying to just virtualize the hard drive and basically do what I did here on the virtualized hard drive and pull the program off there the same way?

That could be very handy it certain situations.

I had a thread on it here a year or so ago, but yeah. I use PC Mover or PickMe, but anything that will work....

A virtual machine makes it pretty easy.
