I have a client that their hosting company up and went out of business. Clients website and email went down, tried to get in touch with tech support and found out that their hosting company is no longer even occupying their office space. His domain is registered with Network Solutions. He isn't so much worried about his website as he is his emails. What would you all suggest we do?

Is the domain registered in his name? If so you can fax forms to Network Solutions and get it changed over to his name. Call them usually requires a pic id and business license and just tell what happen.

Now as far as the email, if it was actually hosted on the "hosting companies" equipment and they are gone not much you can do there. You can probably get the site back thru "internet archive" but I don't see the mail coming back.

My advice? Switch everything over to Network Solutions. They already have their domain so it should be easy. You can be the Admin Technical Contact and administer it remotely for them. Do they have an archive copy of their original website? You might have to rebuild their website from scratch if they don't.

One stop shopping, and Network Solutions isn't in any danger of going out of business anytime soon.

Just out of curiosity, do you know the name of the hosting company that went under?.

He told me but I don't remember off the top of my head. When I get back from his office I'll let you know.

I believe their hosting company just forwarded their mail and not so much hosted it. They have Exchange running and their mail gets put into it. They just aren't receiving new mail. Thanks for the quick suggestions guys, I'll keep you updated.

Hosting companies name is Focus Publications. They were geared towards mortgage companies offering newsletters, loan calculators, etc. My client called a company down the hall from them and they said they just up and moved. Nothing in the space anymore. Their ISP (Nuvox) might have hosting included in their plan so they are checking on that but if not, they will probably go with NS. I have also dealt with Network Solutions and found the experience pleasant. I'll keep you all updated. Thanks again for the quick suggestions.

Good luck with Nuvox. I've dealt with those jokers before on behalf of clients in metro east. Nuvox is a royal pita.

That's great. Nuvox is who they are going with as they are giving them the hosting and email free of charge with their other ISP services.

It appears that focuspub.com (hosting companies website) has an admin contact of an employee at focus publications but the bill to and technical contact were from 1and1 hosting. I have heard horror stories about 1and1 so that can't be good.

I tried calling them and it says 'network difficulties, try again later'. My client called the phone company and they said all lines are out of service. They even called a dentist office down the hall from Focus and they went down there and there isn't anything or anyone in the office. Their site was up yesterday but I couldn't get to it today. I just tried after reading your response and it half way comes up if you hit stop. I'm not sure whats going on with them.
