Toshiba Satellite A105 - Power Issue

I have a Satellite A105 laptop that when charger is put in, it rarely will recharge battery. If you wiggle the power connector from the AC adapter around sometimes it will start to charge. I have tore down the laptop and removed the DC jack but am having a problem figuring out what voltages are supposed to be at the motherboard. Attached is a picture of the power connector connected to the MOBO. Does anyone know what voltages I should get across the posts? I tested the AC adapter and it is outputting correct voltage at 15V.

More Info: When I measure voltage across posts at MOBO I get 1V and 4V. AC adapter correctly outputting 15V. I was told that soda was spilled on the laptop on that side (I saw that as I was taking it apart as well) so this is probably why I'm not seeing correct voltage and will probably have to replace it. Thoughts?

Are you saying you replaced the jack and the system still does not charge?
Your picture looks like the primary power cable assembly that most toshibas have. They often don't have a jack soldered to the board. You should get 15 volts between either of the black and red wires.

Your jack is bad. I just did a A105 a week or so ago. If it fails on the wiggle its the jack itself. If you are not good at soldering make sure you buy the jack WITH the harness. Otherwise you will have to desolder the old jack from the harness and do some fiddling with the harness wires to make a new one.

Be sure to get the right one, its a 3.0mm center pin, not a 2.5, but if you search for the jack on ebay make sure you put the exact model in, not just the A105 part.

Its very easy to do these, just slide them in the mount, but some jacks that dont come with the harness have odd pin configs on the jack and you have to bend them to get it to fit. The A105 jack sits up against a metal base opposite the plastic side when you close it so a pin sticking out can short it. Great design work on their part. :rolleyes:
 
Yeah I have it all taken apart I'll connect and test it before I put everything back together. The sales guy said it did have the harness and wasn't positive on the 3mm pin but assured me that it is guaranteed to fit this model.

Thanks for the tip. I am investigating all laptop parts dealers local and overseas as I am getting alot more work now and want to maximize my profit margins, or whatever.... :D
