Howdy Folks,
i am running into this client laptop. Its a Toshiba satellite m55-s139. I got it because it will never power up! first check i did was the power adapter and that turns positive ... it was bad! so i tested with my universal adapter and the laptop powered up and came to life! So i was this is an easy fix! i contacted my client and informed him that it was the adapter and when he picked it up it powers fine and he was able to work on it!

Boy was i wrong :) he calls me next morning and said it is dead again , but this time with the new adapter there is light and everything but "Black Screen".

so i get the darn thing back and sometimes it boots just fine and loads windows. so randomly it will boot , i ran (memtest, hadisk test, live cd, external monitor and took all components) "same results"nothing comes on the screen, flashed a light on it and no image on the screen! no beeps no nothing.

if i leave it for 30min and try to boot it again it comes up just fine!

any suggestion folks

Thanks in advance

I just fixed a Toshiba M35 with similar symptoms. The problem is a tiny little chip that regulates power that gets broken/cold solder joints. The one in the M35 is probably about .5 x .5 cm and has 6 pins on each of the 4 sides.

You'll have to disassemble the laptop. That chip in the M35 was in between the vga port and the dc jack. If the laptop is currently not POSTing, and you apply downward pressure to that chip and then it comes on, then that's your problem. If it is, PM me and I'll post a picture of how I fixed mine. (Those solder joints are wicked small and in a terrible location on the board.
