I would have to say it depends on the client and their connection. If they want to use remote login and have a static IP & a domain address then by all means use a SBS it would be perfect for them. However, if your client has a dynamic IP, no need for remote login, and no domain, then standard server and Microsoft BPOS is a great alternative, giving them access to webmail and sharepoint.
For my shop I use SBS2003 and beginning the first week of December I'm going to by migrating over to a new server running 2008 SBS. I like SBS it just nice to have something to cover the gap between multiple tasked servers and SBS
