Customer came in, lightning killed printer and desktop.

Printer is easy, buy a new one.
Desktop ended up having to replace CPU/Mobo. PSU was sending the right volts, HDD checked out good.
I replaced them both and stuck the hard drive in, and powered up.

It's running Win7 Pro

when it starts up the logo orbs just start and it instant reboots, no BSOD, just a normal ole reboot. start in startup repair does instant reboot.

The only thing they want off the computer is QuickBooks 2018. I assume they have the installation media, so I just need the company files? Where do I find them? I am going to stick in an SSD and stick on Win10. Have her bring the QB install disk/username & password to install it again and get them back up and running.

Does @fabs backup QB?

hard drive smart data says it's perfect health, and it seems to work well, I just can't get the darn thing to boot after 2 hours of working on it.

In that case look in the actual users documents folder for anything that looks like it might be Quickbooks related. Also, check at the root of C:\ because "users"......
I did a full drive search for .QBW and got 210 results... Does this look like a file I can use to recover everything?

Obviously I don't ever touch QB... I assume it'd be as easy as any other program:
Install
activate
recover from file
C_S_LAW_2018.QBW
and then everything is just how it was?

Im going to Fab the whole user over, but I want to double/triple backup this.

Wow, never seen it on the desktop before, but that is your data file. Copy everything in the QUICKBOOKSW file then install QB and leave the default location for install. Place the files in this folder in the location I gave you earlier. Then launch QuickBooks and select Open Company file and point it to that QBW file. Should open just fine as long as the files aren't corrupted.

I'm at home now, but needed to get this research done, she needs it for payroll tomorrow, so Ill try it once I get back in the shoppe.

Also a thing to note is there are two companies in that folder. C_S_LAW_2018 and C&S Lawn Service Inc.
Yeah, I sorted them by date.. they are both lawn services.... Probably a typo. Also, trusting the internet with customer name data....

I would imagine a mod could clean this thread up a tad to remove the names if it's a concern.
