Tiscali Internet issue

Hi, yesterday i was contacted by a family friend to fix there internet issue which they were having, When i got there i could see straight away what the problem was or so i thought.

on there router the internet light was not lit up at all so i rebooted the router and tried to access the router config page but so such look in accessing the page so i then tried my own router which i know works, but it had exactly the same problem being that the internet light did not light up.

all i got that worked was just the power light, ethernet and dsl (model Zyxel prestige 600 series.

I thought it might be the filters so i changed them i also tried a different phone point in the house but again the result was the same, I did think that maybe tiscali had cancelled there account for some reason but they said they have been paying it for 2 years.

Any ideas on what i can do next as ive ruled out a router or computer issue.

looks like another one of tiscrapi's mystery outages to me,i was with with them for years and finally became so disillusioned i left.
only thing i can say is check here http://www.tiscali.co.uk/cgi-bin/status.cgi

and if it was me i would start to look for a new ISP as these were worse than useless towards the end of my time with them.

Its not me who is with tiscali I'm aware there crap, I'm with o2 :D which are much better. I still need other solutions to try :rolleyes:
 
Did you unplug the modem and take out the battery for ten minutes? Sometimes that will work. Try calling the ISP and having them release and renew the IP and flush/renew any other settings they have. It sounds like the ISP is crap but it might work. lol
 
If the power and DSL light are on the red internet light might suggest an incorrect password. I would check to see if the router configuration inc password has become corrupt.
Ipconfig /all will give you the default gateway Ip which will be the IP of your router.
 
hey andy didn't mean to sound negative its just my jaded view of tiscali:D:D
anyway is your family friend/client using Zonealarm only this is a know problem where ZA was broken by windows update. a long shot maybe but may be worth checking.

when i spoke to them on the phone it was clear the guy was reading from a script and giving me stupid things to do such as reset the router or change filters, It was very basic stuff and besides i checked all this before i phoned them i told them the router was not at fault as i tried another one i had.

At the moment they have no internet still :(

i know this feeling well,but the prats at the call centre will not help until you do all this bs as they cannot see beyond their script:(
have you tried their router at your place to see if it can connect to the tinterweb or is this not a possibility.the only other option as i can suggest with regards to tiscali is to log onto their support forums at http://www.tiscali.co.uk/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=215 and try to raise a ticket that way but that can be very long winded and sometimes it seems pointless but when all else fails......
