Time for a Brake Job!

Lol, yeah. I've got a 2014 turbo sonata limited with crazy brakes. I had a 2010 corolla with not much pedal feel but great braking action. I have a 99 volvo that weighs a metric buttload, has meh pedal feel, but stops great because they're frigging massive. Before that I had a Hemi durango, those stupid rotors were massive, and it stopped on a dime. It's all about surface area!

So my job today reminded me of this thread....one of my brake pads on the RAM 1500 cracked and started making a horrific noise over the weekend. Had driven the family up to a pumpkin festival in Providence RI, what a noise leaving the place. Went reeeeealy easy on the normally 1x hour drive home.

So this morning went to the local parts shop..picked up a kit of pads for the front, 'n related items (kit of anti rattle clips, grease, etc).

Inner passenger side brake pad was horrific!

Prolly do rear pads next weekend, just fer the heck of it.

What happen? Overheat and crack? Reminds me of the first time my girlfriend drove down a mountain. Yep, She rode the break going down the smokey's. I was a sleep and just happen to wake up and smell some odor. I had her pull over and the breaks were pretty darn hot! So, We took a break and let them cool off a bit :)

Rental.

:)

Take a pic of the break pad and post it if you can. I know I would love to see what it looks like :)

Tossed in garbage can when cleaning up yesterday and already on way to the dump, garbage pickup this morning.

Nothing exciting really...~20 maybe 25% of the leading and trailing edge of the right inner pad was shredded away.

Likely due to this summers trip up Mt Washington...well...the down part. Stuck behind tourists who stopped a kajilion times on the way down cuz they were scared of passing incoming traffic on the narrow road down the mountain. Built up a whole bunch of cars behind them until we finally waved them over to allow a bunch of us to pass. I do recall my brakes smelling a bit when we got to the bottom of the mountain, and feeling the heat from them.

Plus I drive >90mph on an almost daily basis...and tow trailers. Just passed 60k miles...40k of it is my hard driving.
