Thinking of getting shop manager....

Nevermind, I closed the page and went back and it loaded differently allowing me to set it to 1 year. The popout pricing adjustment was covering it when I went to it first.

Why lease for a year when it's only $149.50 to own it.

The support and upgrades would be a reason. If you plan to renew the S&U every 6 months, then it would be $98/year after the included 6 months with an owned license.

Owned License:
First Year: $198.50*
Subsequent Years: $98.00*

Leased License:
First Year: $149.25
Subsequent Years: $149.25

Personally, I would prefer to own it, but others don't which is why the option is there :)

*These are assuming of course that the S&U will be renewed every 6 months. The owned version is fully licensed to be used forever without one.

Thanks Robert, I was forgetting about the S&U.
I don't have a website as I am not set up for business yet, but when i get one - I was looking at this:-https://secure.vistaprint.co.uk/websites.aspx?xnav=top

Would shopmanager be easy to setup on my site given that I don't have a clue regarding website stuff ie. Apache, PHP, MySQL etc.
Thanks in advance.

I would personally avoid against any of the off-the-shelf website builders such as the one offered by VistaPrint. Primarily for the fact that you're tied in with their system, and moving down the track will be a major pain.

I would suggest someone like StableHost or HawkHost, and a simple wordpress website would be much better (and significantly easier to move should you ever wish to).

I can't find any technical information on the VistaPrint offering, so I couldn't tell you if ShopManager would even be compatible.

On a cPanel host (such as the 2 I mentioned before) it is a very simple setup (even without prior knowledge, you should be up and running in in a hour or 2).

Anyone using it? I've tried the demo and like the fact it's web based.

The only thing it seems to me missing for my needs is the ability to email/sms jobs to other staff.

I raised a support ticket asking about this and they said they'd put it on there to do list.

At the moment I''ve just got all my client info on a huge excel spread sheet which is not ideal.

Anyway just looking for comments.

I actually thought you meant you were thinking of hiring a shop Manager ... which is also not a bad call, as long as you get a good one. :P

Thanks for reply, i'll have a look at Wordpress. i've heard of it but never tried it. I'll definitely be purchasing shopmanager in the near future.

Looking to get ShopManager, I love how it looks. However, my own problem that's stopping me from buying it is the price. I just simply cannot afford $150 (after Technibble discount) for the piece of software, when my current setup isn't costing me a thing. Now granted I am using invoicebubble and it only covers the invoicing part of it. But considering that I can get PC Repair Tracker for only $125 after the ACRBO discount, I just can't justify $150.

My next question is, is there a client portal that I can put on my website that allows clients to check their status?

And I am on the go, A LOT, is there an Android app in the works or something that works with Android and ShopManager?

There is, CustomerCentral. You can see a demo of it here: http://sm.ifetch.com.au/demo

There is no immediate plans for any mobile apps, though they are on the wishlist for the future. That said, since SM is entirely web-based, you can access it from any internet enabled device.

I was going to email you again Robert but thought I'd ask here as it may help other people out.

Exports 1: I was trying to export some stuff from the demo, is there a restriction in place on the demo to withhold the value of each invoice? For example, I'd need to export a list of invoices for specific dates for VAT returns and then send them off to my accountant. If this is already available, apologies, I just can't find it.

Exports 2: Is there a custom report exporter, where I wanted to say export invoices between certain dates? Is that to be included in v3.2?

Staff: When administrating staff within Shop Manager, is there a way to restrict certain modules?

Dymo: I've not used a Dymo before so was wondering what the integration in to SM was? Does it print out customer details or do you choose which details to print?

No worries at all :)

The current exporter is a simple database dump - because the items are in a separate table to the invoices/jobs, they don't come out with it. There is going to be a whole new exporting/reporting system included in v3.2.

As above, this will also be included in v3.2.

There is, if you edit a staff member, you see the permissions settings for that user.

The included templates print job id labels (to affix to service jobs). v3.1.3 also includes the ability to print customer address labels, and onsite id labels.

Thanks for the reply Robert. How far off are v3.1.3 and v3.2?

v3.1.3 is done - I'm just re-writing the install scripts for it before it gets released. So, some time this week.

v3.2 will be started once CC1.0.1 is done (compatibility fix for SM v3.1.3), so we're likely looking at 2-3 months.

The roadmap here: http://mysm.co/roadmap/ is typically up to date, so that's always a good start to see how we're travelling.
