Hello all. Does anyone have experience with acronis true image home 2012 plus pack? Is it actually good at restoring to dissimilar hardware? Thanks.

Someone may correct me if I am wrong, because I don't use Acronis, but I would think you can restore an image to a computer so long as the HAL is the same (AMD/Intel).

I am mainly concerned with restoring the image to a different HD and having boot issues b/c the image is being booted from a different HD controller. Is that a legit concern? Thanks.

I used acronis universal restore moving the whole image to a complete different laptop, worked great.

The HDC also need to be suitable. That is what these universal restore apps do - replace the the HDC and HAL if required

In answer to the OP - yes I've used it and it works fine.

I haven't upgraded to the 2012 version yet but I've used the 2011 and earlier versions to restore to dissimilar hardware tons of times and I can't recall ever having a problem.
