I'm looking for a decent stress testing program. Ram, video, HD, etc.

I've downloaded Passmark's Burnintest program, and am running it on a Dell right now.

Anyone have a favorite one to recommend. Just wondering.

Passmark is actually a very good product. But if you need something more "robust" QA+Win32 by Eurosoft is better and works with every MS OS including Win 7...but it's got a crazy large price tag.

Thanks for the tips

It took about 45 minutes to run, and gave the box a PASSED mark. It seems to excercise just about everything, not just the CPU. It checks the optical drive, sound system, and has a video window flashing various colors. I guess that is exercising the onboard video.

Just tried PC-Check on an old PIII I got from a garage sale for $4. It seemed to stress/test everything. The hard drive stress test really beats the drive going from inside track to outside track repeatedly for 20 minutes or more.

Maybe you don't care about Mac, but we run 6 games of chess (computer vs. computer) with preferences set on strong. Then we go into the utilities folder and launch 3D grapher running all seven examples if the machine can handle it. Pretty much great for reduplicating any intermittent heat/logic board/processor issues. If a system can run overnight with all this going on it should be in pretty good shape.

@anon mac tech
computer vs. computer chess games, they are great to watch, but i never thought of them as stress testers!! :)

BTW i like your'e avatar i'll be changing mine to something similar.

Yeah, Chess comes with OSX versions 10.3 and up. Grapher didn't come along until 10.4. The cool thing is these apps are built into the OS and not 3rd party apps which may or may not conflict with anything in the OS. But there may be some 3rd party chess game for Windows that is perfectly compatible and may let you utilize 100% of the CPU for extended periods without conflicting with Windows.

BTW I look forward to seeing the new avatar. Mac or Win logo?
