Stock led lcd

We have always ordered lcd screens as needed when we would get a repair job. I was under the false assumption that they were very unique to the laptop model. After reading on this forum I get the idea they are fairly generic. If we wanted to start stocking common 15" models, what ones would be recommended? Any suggestions on what things to look for in regards to compatibility?

For the most part, they are pretty universal. Most standard 15.6 LED screens (for instance) can be replaced with a comparable 15.6 LED screen. We only keep two types of screen in stock.

We also keep a few of these and these around for the odd ball screens with the bottom right connections. These screens tend to be way more expensive, so the adapters are a good solution --just make sure you connect it right or you will fry the cable, screen or worse.

All I'll say is I have seen laptops, same model, but different screen manufacturers with connectors in different locations. But that's been a few years and I don't really do that many laptop repairs these days.

How did you come to the conclusion that these particular models (one is marketed as a Gateway replacement, and one an Acer - one company) were the "universal" ones? Both 15 and 17" laptops have always been made in several different resolutions, so it's hard for me to conclude that 1366x768 would work for all (or even most) 15s and a 1600x900 would work for all (or most) 17s. I would have concerns that the laptops video card wouldn't necessarily be capable of producing the higher resolution if it was originally paired with a lower res screen, and any non-native resolution would be a downgrade in video quality from the OEM.

Plus, are the mounting screw holes universal?

I'm not disagreeing, just questioning - this is what has always kept me from stocking screens at all. I use laptopscreens.com and order each one individually. I'd love to save the shipping time by stocking some, but REALLY don't want to be stuck with a box full of screens I can't use.

Actually those are currently the two most used screens in my experience.

I looked at my purchases this past month and that 15.6 I bought 8 times and the 17.3 I bought 6 times. All other types were just one each.

As Jimbo said, those are the two most common screens you will need. It does not mean that you wont see others. If you are ever in doubt, look up the model number of the screen, look at it's specs and compare. Simple. As for mounting holes, yes, they are all pretty standard.

If it helps any, we do at least a couple hundred screen replacements each year and 9 out of 10 times, we will use one of the two screens I listed above.

The way I understand is that most 15.6" LED screens are the same, the only difference is the finish. You do get some that have a higher resolution but they are rarer.

However CFL screens are much more fussy and you generally have to get exactly the same screen. It is the manufacturers interest to use the most common screens as this means the price of the laptop will be cheaper.

I personally think it is not really worth replacing most CFL screens now as the screens can cost upto £200 alone compared to around £45.00 for the LED version.

we have been stocking the common 40 pin for both the 15 and 17 inch ones pcx mentioned. It has been great for business. We lowered our price $20, but offer same day express for $50 more, so it is working out nice.

We came across our first 30 pin from an acer aspire model v3-551-8887. its lcd model was b156xtn01.0 . Is this an oddball screen or do you guys see this one often? would you stock these ones or order them as they come up?

I keep stock of 15.6 led, couple of 17's and 1 10.1. That's it.

I don't keep any in stock. I order replacements to fit the exact screen. I know that there are some screens that are generic, but the connectors are not always in the same location and screen sizes vary.

I order all of my screens from LaptopScreen.com and have had very good service from them. I live in Hawaii and they always arrive within 3-4 days if not sooner. They have great customer service and the screens have a 3 year warrantee.

It is time to revisit this old thread.

I have been carrying these screens for the last couple years and they have worked for most models. Now that most screens are higher res on laptops these old screens are not as common.

I have sold through my inventory and would like to start buying the current 2017 most common lcds.

Most that come in for repairs a couple years old anyways.
