Spybot : overhauled and revamped

The title says it all.

It has been given a makeover, including a number of separate software packages, including one for technicians.

Yes, completely different now. I've been trying it out on a few machines after reading a post here that said it could get rid of Babylon crap without all the manual fiddling about. Don't have an opinion yet although it did find a few 'leftovers' that the D7 compliment of malware scanners missed.

Got a system on the bench which needs a good clean up, seems like the perfect machine to have a play with it on. I know it has Babylon on a load of other crap on it.

I'm REALLY tired of the "technician" licensing crap. It seems like software companies think our biggest problem is shoveling our way through all of the money lying around to get to our computers. Spybot wants 67 bucks per computer, per year.

I'll never know if it works or not. (It certainly had become rather worthless over the years.)

And they are a business too; what bothers me is that they're also asking for donations. They should do one or the other.

That seems quite pricey compared to other things out there. Personally I think the sandboxie software is by far the best deal... About 45 US dollars for a lifetime license.

Is there anything you guys use that is comparable to spybot and free or at least a one time buy?

I am still quite standoffish about Spybot after the bad taste it left me before, especially the Teatimer crap they had, a real system killer resource wise... I'm not too eager to use it again anytime soon...

I dunno, I still like (prefer is more the word) MalwareBytes for general cleanup duties. It works great in "Safe Mode with Networking".

I've d/loaded SpyBot (free) and will give it another go. Well see how it works out.

As I recall, using / installing Teatimer was an option during the installation, wasn't it?

True, but the option was pre-checked so you had to remember to uncheck it before finishing the install. I've had many users install SpyBot because "somebody" said it was a good program and they just took all the defaults during the install.

I'd agree but, just so you know, MBAM is intended to be run in regular Windows for maximum efficiency. Run it in Safe Mode if you must, but always follow up with a scan in regular mode.
