Hey guys, anyone familiar with this fault? I had to replace the video cable on a HP HV9000 series laptop and this is the current video output.

Ive seen it in quarters too.

In my case it was either the cable is not seated in the LCD correctly or its a problem on the main board.

Could it be a wrong lcd replacement screen or did you say it was the original? Also, Does it do it if you go into the bios?

The one I had in it was actually the MB that was going out. Just a certain connection on the video chipset I guess leaked over to another that caused the problem. <---- yah, this sounds stupid in retrospect. But it was a chipset problem.

I would suspect this being more common on AMD based laptops than intel because they do run hotter.

Its not the screen I've tried a couple with the same result. The funny thing is that it worked fine when I tested it on a monitor. The LCD didnt work so I assumed it was either the video cable or the inverter. This is what happened when I swapped the video cable.

Sincerely doubt it is the inverter since that just controls the back lighting. And I would not expect external to display the same symptom. Was this the symptom before you started work? Did you inspect the cable ends very closely? Does it do it in BIOS? Have you tried flashing the BIOS?

What's the full model #?

If it's an Intel IGP then cable/screen. If it's an NVIDIA chipset, then its probably that. GPU issues don't necessarily duplicate on an external. Saw interlacing on a 2008/2007 MacBook Pro once, video output was clean on an external, and it ended up being a GPU. Also had an older Acer Aspire, video out worked fine, but it was again a GPU issue.

As someone already said an inverter solely inverts DC > AC to power the CCFL.

Are you sure that cable is 100%?

I guess I need to be more clear.

1. It is not the inverter, I know what it does and at first I thought it could be the issue as I wasn't getting anything at all.

2. The model is HP9834ca

3. First thing I did was to test it with a monitor to ensure it wasnt the Graphics chip, and it worked fine connected to a monitor.

4. It looks like that as soon as it boots so I am certain it would be the same loading into the BIOS?

I'd wager its the 8400M.

If you really want I can mail you another LVDS cable. (If I can find one)
