This has been a real time saver for me as computer repair is my second job, as it seems to be for many of you as well.

I install the streamer on customers computers when I have them in for virus removal (which is a good chunk of my repairs). Now I can spend more time doing family stuff in the evening, and check in from my Android phone/tablet and click 'next' when running my removal regimen (D7).

I purchased the access anywhere pack (less than $20 for the year). This allows me to connect via 3G, 4G, or any wifi network. This allows me to keep the process rolling while at my day job.

Bump

With the end of logmein free, and the major price increase on central, this deserves a bump.

Any feedback on how testy the client is to install? I like to try to get as many virus removals as possible done without a need for a site visit or hardware drop off. Logmein was able to be installed on 98% of machines where the msi file could be downloaded by the user. I imagine it would take me more than a 7 day trial to get an accurate number on that.

Just an update on this... I recently decided to purchase the business version of this which is unlimited everything at $60 per year, per seat as a backup to the Teamviewer re-brand with GFI. I can tell you now, this is not something that you will be able to use for one-time support or as your primary remote support program.

This program is great and very easy to use, however, as secondary remote access for unattended access. It doesn't have all 3 of the main requirements for remote support: UAC override, remote into safemode and reconnect, and one-time support.

It does override UAC so you can click on the prompts, which is always great. It does not reboot into safemode and I haven't had time to test whether if it was (somehow) rebooted into safemode if you can access it in safemode. The most important thing to know is that you need to enter your account credentials in order to tie it to your account and connect to it. So this won't work for one-time support.

It is fast, it's easy and very low cost, but it's not a full-featured (or minimal remote support featured) for a primary remote support program. Also the installer only needs a couple clicks but the "configuring" and "checking requirements" dialogs take well over a minute to complete and looks like it's almost frozen on all of the machines I installed it on.

I know this is an old post but I just tried it out a couple minutes ago, and I would say take a second look at it. It's very simple to use you can send the user a link or the download. If they click the link it will actually give them a step by step walk through of how to install it and get it set up. And it doesn't require a log in you just give them a 12 digit code and boom you're in. The mobile app is very fluid and smooth on my 4GLTE mobile connection too. The only thing I would like to see is some form of branding. But that's not a total killer because GFI doesn't really give you any opitons with their team viewer client. The mobile aspect is worth it in my book and it's soo much cheaper than log me in. I will go back and report on the safe mode aspect later.

I'm in the market for a good remote support tool that's not too expensive. I've used logmein for years but now I'm looking for an alternative. I will check it out. I also heard about instant housecall. Anybody using it?

I have excellent success with this Splashtop software. I was grandfathered into the $60 per year unlimited PCs and Groups. I bought it about 1.5 years ago when Logmein stopped the free version.

It's amazing for the price but I still find it to be fairly glitchy. On numerous occasions I find that the streamer just logs itself out randomly and I have to call the client to tell them to either enter the password (if it's not "deployed") or just click ENTER if it's deployed. Rarely I'll have to have them close out and restart the Streamer to make it functional.

Also, while they finally added file transfer it's still missing a few things like

1. branding (so clients don't ask what the squiggly blue icon is),
2. ability to see if there is an active user (i.e. "mouse has been inactive for 15 minutes")
3. ability to switch user profiles without disconnecting session
4. secondary accounts (allowing client to remotely access their own machines) is a bit klunky

I'm also in the AYCE for $60/year and it's definitely worth it. As the price increases, I'm not so sure. They have been making some nice changes and the interface looks quite a bit nicer than it used to. I'm definitely keeping it for now but down the line I may relegate it to being my backup option while using something more robust like ScreenConnect.
