Hi All,

Had the above laptop come in with a broken screen .. all was fine just the screen cracked.

Ordered replacement screen which arrived and I fitted.

Now when powering it on the screen is black .. there is now back light.

I can tell screen is on as if I shine a torch on it I can just about see it...

Could this be a faulty screen ? Or something more on the laptop ?

I tried the original screen and but that is not working at all as far as I can tell.

Anyone know what could be up or is it best to swap out the screen ?

Have never had a laptop screen do this before they are normally a simple swap.

Cheers.

Lets recap, correct me where necessary:

1) machine comes in, cracked screen. Screen DOES light up but is cracked.
2) you put in new screen, there is NO backlight.
3) you put old screen back in, NOW there is NO back light there either ?

Let me know if the above is correct (your post is confusing).

Yes that is correct.

But I am not 100% on number 3 .. I am going to test the old screen again.

Thanks.

Well, if all three are correct it sounds like you killed the LED circuits on motherboard. But go through all the tests you can.

If you left the battery installed when you did the swap that's is likely what killed it.

But if the motherboard is dead - wouldn't the laptop not work at all ?

Its fully usable apart from the dark screen ?

Cheers.

No, if you shorted the LCD/LED circuits then it would only affect the screen. But without opening it up and inspecting and probably having a schematic, you might not find out whats wrong.

Sorry i must of mis read your post as the motherboard being dead...

If the LED circuits are dead, is there a fix for that or is it a case of replacing the motherboard ?

Every motherboard is different. Some have easily identifiable fuses and silk screened boards telling you what the circuits are, some have no fuses and have circuits on both sides of the board for the LCD/LED and its confusing as hell.

If you can determine the fault is not the screen or LCD cable or some kind of ground cable to the LCD assembly then its likely something on the motherboard.

Tried the original screen and I can see that it "comes on" but just no backlight .. so would seem that it is down to the motherboard - thats real annoying.

Even worse as there is not much online in regards which or where the fault may be

Learn from this. Always remove all power sources (battery and charger) before working. Also. Discharge any residual power by holding the power button for 30 secs with no power source connected.

Thanks for the replies guys ...

Fuse had gone but now sorted and all back working :)

Cheers.

I would put good money on this being the LCD/LED circuits on the board. Time to get the soldering iron out :)

EDIT: Appears not. Nice one on sorting the problem.
