Just picked up a Sony Vaio VGN-BX195VP laptop that isn't booting.
When the charger was first plugged in, the battery light was flashing indicating a flat battery but I have charged it up overnight and it the light has now gone.
I have tested the AC adapter and it is giving out 19.5v (which is correct) and I have used a meter on the pins where the battery plugs in and get a reading of 3.2v to 3.4v which sounds a bit low but there are 6 pins so it could be charging different cells at this voltage. This indicates that the socket should be OK.
What do you guys normally do or test for in these circumstances? The laptop is quite old so I don't really want to suggest a new DC socket, motherboard, battery etc without knowing which is causing the problem.
The strange thing is when the laptop is on battery or AC I can hear a high pitched noise coming from the device (quite faint - you need to put your ear to it).
Any help or ideas appreciated.
