Just been reading this on techradar http://www.techradar.com/news/software/operating-systems/85-windows-7-tips-tricks-and-secrets-643861 lots of little useful tweaks and stuff but i particularly like the god folder for the desktop
20. Explore God Mode
Windows 7 has changed Control Panel a little, but it's still too difficult to locate all the applets and options that you might need. God Mode, however, while not being particularly godlike, does offer an easier way to access everything you could want from a single folder.
To try this out, create a new folder and rename it to:

The first part, "Everything" will be the folder name, and can be whatever you want: "Super Control Panel", "Advanced", "God Mode" if you prefer.
The extension, {ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}, must be entered exactly as it is here, though, including the curly brackets. When you press [Enter] this part of the name will disappear, and double-clicking the new folder will display shortcuts to functions in the Action Centre, the Network and Sharing Centre, Power options, troubleshooting tools, user accounts and others - more than 260 options in total.

Wow... thanks very much for your insights.

We're not a very informed bunch here at Technibble.

What is this, 'Windows 7', you speak of?

Is it some kind of 'computer program'?

your certainly a sarky bunch, i just hadn't seen the god folder before and thought it would be quite useful if anybody hadn't seen it, i'll keep myself to myself in future

Good tip. I'm sure there will be techs out there that have never heard of God Mode and will find your tip useful. I felt the same way about posting any more tips after I was told to use the search feature because the tip I posted was on the site 6 months ago. I'm sure God Mode has already been posted to but, if you don't know about it how can you search for it. Don't keep it to yourself. Keep on posting ;) It will help somebody.

I guess I AM uninformed- I hadn't heard of this before. Very handy tip.

It is difficult to know whether to post a tip or not. But even if one has been previously mentioned, lots of people either won't have seen it, or joined after it was posted.

I appreciate the occasional mention of an oldie-but-goody that might have snuck past me. Like this one.

Thanks!

Thank you OP for the link I found a handful helpful, I'm sure others will to, don't let others down you on being a member here.

I just double-checked. This "God Mode" first hit all the regular sites in January. It's nothing more than the same kind of links you can get by using 7's search box on the start menu. e.g. Type "disk" to get "create and format hard disk partitions". I don't think I saw anything in the 'god' folder that I couldn't get at the search box.

There's a couple of useful items in their list but it's really poorly written. They tell the reader that 7 has XP-mode... Really? 'Cause Microsoft says that's only Pro/Ent/Ult versions.
Apparently, I can turn my wired desktop into a wireless access point.
I can also "pin" things to my taskbar (#26). Who knew!?

"21. Right-click everything"
I guess that seems to sum up the level of information from that article. Great for the new user but, with a couple of exceptions, pretty useless.

Ok Ok I'll bite my tongue. I guess I was just looking at the number of posts OP had (at that point, 7) and figured he probably hadnt put much thought into the thread before posting. I think this is a reasonable assumption.

I would have thought a person might familiarise himself with the community and its existing knowledge base before presuming to provide the benefits of his own wisdom?

I also presumed that most people would have heard of 'god mode' before. There was a small buzz in all the usual places when it came out, and debate about its dubious nomenclature.

But I seem to be wrong on at least one count :) I apologise for any consternation caused! It was meant to be a gentle gibe, no offense intended!

God Mode is nothing more than a folder filled with.. shortcuts.

I prefer to know where everything lives rather then get there by shortcut.

Well, that can be a pain too. It's my favourite example of the kind of convoluted mess windows is: the location of the user's data/profiles:

c:\windows\users
c:\documents and settings
c:\users

I guess for Windows 8/2012 it'll be c:\windows\users again

Or maybe they will give some credit and go for...

c:\home

Sorta off the "God Mode" topic...here's my favorite Win 7 tip "The Problem Step Recorder". Yes, it has been mentioned before..I actually suggested it for the "tool of the week" and Bryce wrote an article about it but it's worth mentioning again.

This is a great support tool for that odd error your client keeps telling you about. Type psr from the run command to launch the program.

All this does is discourage people from posting as they must just get grilled.
I admit I have not been around as much lately as seeing this kind of stuff just turns me off.

To the OP...
I had heard of it and decided not to use it. I preferred knowing where everything is. Thanks.
